I've been out for 30+ years, so some of these answers may have changed.

Combat uniforms are devoid of medals for obvious reasons. Insignia of rank is now worn on the collar by all ranks. Officers wear thirer branch insignia on the left collar and rank insignia on the right collar, Enlisted personnel wear rank on both. Current unit patch is worn on the left shoulder, and the individual's preferred previous unit patch is worn on the right shoulder. If no previous unit, no unit patch.

Class A and dress uniforms still employ chevrons worn of the sleeves for EM, OR rank worn on shoulder epaulettes--depends on unifoorm design. With the Class A uniform, RIBBONS are worn above the left pocket, and skill award medals are worn on the pocket.

With the dress Uniform, the wearer may usually choose between wearing actual medals or miniaturized ribbons.

Dogtags contain
Name
Service Number (guess it's SSAN now with letter prefix.
DOB
Blood type
No other information is included , in case of capture.

Division and Regiment are rather loolesly defined, but a division has one or more regiments. Regiments are made up of at least two batallions, the types of which (branches) are dependent on the mission of the regiment.
battalions usually have 3 line companies and one artillery company. A Company has 3 line platoons and a weapons, or Mortar platoon. An Armored Platoon has 5 tanks, each crewed by a squad. An Infantry company has 3 line platoons and a weapons platoon, the weapons platoon consisting of light mortars and heavy machine guns. A platoon has 3 rifle squads and a weapons squad who crew light machine guns. All the squads have 2 fire teams.

To tell someone what unit you are in, you start with Company (usually lettered ), Battalion (usually numbered, Regiment (usually numbered), Division (usually numbered and described by type, eg 82nd Airborne, 5th Infantry)

The full description starts with squad, and goes to Army or Corps, but that's too much info. Divisions are only rarely reassigned to other Armies. Many times, only the Division is given--if someone wants to know the details, they'll ask.

Go to a U.S Calvary store, or some other military surplus store and buy a medals guide for whatever branch. They are all different as to how the medals are arranged.

Dogtags: Name, SSN, DOB, blood type, religion

Division is usually the whole base, like 101rst Airborne Division
Regiments are within a division like the 75th Ranger Regiment, in Fort Benning, GA.

From the Division level in the Army it goes, division, brigade, battalion, company, platoon, squad, team

So in the Army you would say I'm in 3/327 Infantry 101rst Airborne (3rd battalion, 327 Regiment, 1rst Brigade, 101rst Division)

Why do you want to know, want to tell people your a soldier?

On the battle combat uniform, medals are not worn. Your unit patch is worn on your left shoulder the US Army name tape is worn over the left part of your chest; your name tape is worn over the right side of your chest. The american flag and your combat patch is worn on your right shoulder. Dog tag info is as follows: first line is last name, second line is first name and middle initial, thrid line is social security number, fourth line is you blood type, and the last line is your religion. The difference is a division is a higher command and large in size. A regiment is a part of a division. A few regiments make up a division and consists of less people. A brigade is smaller and several of them make up a regiment. A unit is smaller and several of them make up a brigade. I am currently deployed to Iraq and a member of the 324th MP DET (unit). It is explained by stating the largest headquarters first working your way down. It would be described as: 88RRC, 300 MP Brigade, 324th MP DET.

Bound's Hubby here:

Dog tags: name, rank, service number, blood type and faith.

On the unit size... they are determined by size. Size can vary. From small to large: squad, platoon, company, brigade, division. The term "unit" is not in the size break-down.

Uniform badges placement:
Left shoulder is current unit assignment. Right shoulder is most recent overseas combat deployment. Left pocket flap is for marksmanship badges and special unit badge such as Pathfinder. Above the left pocket flap is for individual medal citation ribbons. Right pocket flap is the name plate. Above the right pocket flap is unit citation ribbons. Right pocket is generally recruiter or drill sergeant badges.

the new ACU'S, i currently wear them on a daily basis. the are digital looking, you can see me in them at www.myspace.com/keshiasen, you dont wear medals on your uniform, but you can only wear special indentifier badges. and your insignia goes on your baret.

the dogtags have:
name, ssn, blood type, and religous prefrence (no squad)

you dont have to say the division and regiment, but you will say the unit , like this " i am in 6015 GSU (garrison support unit)", just say your unit, and that will be enough.

First question:
Highest to lowest. . . left to right. Meaning your highest would be top row left corner and your lowest would be bottom row right corner

Second question:
Name, SSN, Branch, Blood type, and Religious preference.

Third question:
Example: K CO, 3RD BN, 4TH MARINES, 3RD MARDIV. . . I would say "Kilo company, 3rd battalion, 4th marines(regiment), 3rd Marine Division"
