For many years Illegal aliens have done work in the US that, for the most part, Americans would not do--at least not for the wages provided. Farm workers will migrate from area to area depending of the crops that need harvesting. Often their children worked right along side them (not attending school, violating child-labor laws). Who paid them? Who looked the other way?
I have known many wealthy people who had nannies and housekeepers who were here illegally--brought here BY their employers for the most part. Why? Why did these "employers" want to pay under-the-table? It wouldn't be so that THEY didn't have to pay taxes, or so that THEY didn't have to do an accounting of those employees, would it? Also, what sort of responsibility do you think these employers feel towards their workers?? None, you say? Aha! Maybe that's the reason for them being here in the first place?? If they cut a hand off, oh well...they don't work for me!

Could it be that things are so bad in this country--schools suck, jobs are all going overseas, the "middle class" is disappearing, Social Security may not be around for long (even tho' we've all paid into it), we spend billions on this war effort to "democratize" a country that doesn't want to be a democracy (compared to a MUCH smaller amount on so-called "welfare".)

And suddenly we are concerned about all the "illegals"? Doesn't anyone think that may be just a little contrived--to keep our minds off the REAL problems, and to keep us from pointing our fingers at the REAL reasons for our woes???
For years we were happy that "someone" did the dirty work, so that we wouldn't have to be bothered. Now we want to BLAME the people who do the work?
People, for Heaven's sake, THINK!!!! Did you ever give "illegals" a thought last year? Five years ago? Ten?? Why are they the serious topic of so much discussion NOW????

WayneA: The only thing we spend BILLIONS on is WAR!!! Welfare is the tiniest part of our expenditures. Also, if people work for "employers" (users, exploiters, "slave drivers") who don't provide any benefits, who is going to take care of the sick? Maybe the country that these people do all this work for?????

So many of you sound like you think most of these people AREN'T working--just grabbing the next "free lunch". They ARE working, contributing to the overall wealth in the US.

Someone told me to go to bed. I think I will, (because I want to--not because I was told!) It's been fun listening to the fools who think that "illegals" are the cause of all our woes, when really it is our greed, small mindedness, and belief that the USA can do no wrong.

If the problem was simply farm workers, there wouldn't be a problem. That could be regulated, and has been for the last 50 years or so. Farm workers are not the problem. The problem are illegals coming over the border dropping baby after baby using our healthcare system and closing hospitals around the country. If you lived in California you might think differently. Anyone who knowingly hires a person in the USA illegally is violating federal law. And the day is coming that they will have to answer for that crime.

And speaking of crimes, illegals commit crimes and jump back across the border never to stand trial. Just wait until some drunk illegal driving a car kills someone or maims them in an accident, someone you know, you'll think differently about all that you said.

According To Census Bureau Estimates

10,000 Latin Americans
Enter This Country ILLEGALLY Every DAY
3 Million Per Year
With 85 Percent Of Them From Mexico
Nearly 1/2 Of All ILLEGAL ALIENS Currently Living In The USA
(Around 12 Million)
Arrived Since Bush Took Office In 2000

For many years Illegal aliens have done work in the USA
But In The Past 6 Years,
The Population Of ILLEGAL ALIENS Has DOUBLED In The USA

Its Gone WAY BEYOND Migrant Farm Workers

The Mexican invasion of the United States
began decades ago as a spontaneous migration
of ordinary Mexicans into the U.S.
seeking economic opportunities.

It has morphed into a campaign to occupy
and gain power over our country—
a project encouraged, abetted, and organized
by the Mexican state
and supported by the leading elements of Mexican society

Here's an answer thats easy to understand but hard to grasp. During the good times everyone is welcome to sit at the table and partake of the bountiful harvest. When times begin to get tough and the trimmings on the table grow scarce, people look around for someone to cut out of the dinner invitations.
At the same time, Lou Dobbs of CNN has been hosting a segment on his show entitled, "Broken Borders" for the past couple of years. This has focused attention on the issue and was the inspiration of Jim Gilchrist, founder of the minuteman project.
Combined with the argument that open borders leaves america open to terrorist attack and the latent racism inherent on both sides has ignited a powder keg.

Umm. . a sudden realization that they are everywhere, and are destroying our country. It's not all that sudden, it's become far more obvious in the last year or two.

And, btw, the numbers aren't 10 - 12 million illegals here, but more like 25 - 30 million.

We just can't afford to pay billions every year to give them free healthcare and give them the high-paying jobs Americans should be getting.

On top of that, they are bringing all kinds of crime with them from Mexico and refuse to learn English. They are just here to cheat us and get a free ride.

That would be all well and good, but we just CANNOT afford it.

And as BAD as Bush is on this issue (yes, he's an open-borders guy), we NEED to all vote Republican in this fall's elections, or our country is toast.

The Democrats are even worse than Republicans - they want to open the borders and give all the illegals amnesty, and completely destroy any remaining vestige of a real country we have left. . do NOT put the Dems in power this fall. .

because they would LOVE to give our country away to the illegals (look at who those pushing amnesty in the Senate are: Kennedy, Reid, Feinstein, Boxer, etc (even John McCain (a Republican). .

if it wasn't for the REPUBLICAN leadership in the house (starting with Rep Sensenbrenner R - WI, and Tom Tancredo (R - CO), we would now have amnesty, and all the law-breakers who laugh at our nations laws would be given citizenship.

Don't allow that! Vote Republican in the congressional elections this fall.

If you care at all about us having any country and any national identity left. . vote Republican . .

cause the DEMOCRATS are WORSE on this issue!!!

As we see our economy weaken, we begin to look for ways to improve it. It is obvious that if someone takes from the system without putting into the system (illegal immigrants) the math will not work. Now lets add increased crime, quality of education slipping. Students that don’t speak English can’t learn unless a school hires teachers to speak foreign language, thus putting the cost of this burden on the school system and the legal taxpayers with no advantage to the students of the legal tax paying citizens. Illegal immigrants receive free medical treatment, this again at the tax payers expense. I could type half the night, but if you don’t get the picture by now, I am just wasting my time.

Illegal immigration has always been an issue, it is just now it is not just country people feeling the affects of it but now city people who cannot even get a job at mcdonalds because many hire only illegals. Where I live you rarely ever saw illegals. Americans did all the landscaping, worked at car washes, worked construction, worked at fast food chains, worked at motels. Now it is all illegals doing it while Americans are running around trying to work at walmart.

What part of "illegal" don't you understand? Stopping at your original question, it might be re-phrased as what is it about this delayed focus on illegals.

Continuing, the influx of illegals causes our country multiple social/welfare problems. The focus is increased now because of our problem with terrorism. We can see how porous our borders are and how vulnerable we are to terrorism by people who can enter our country through the same route. We have a similar, though smaller, problem on our Northern border. Our borders need be secure.

Where were you 5 years ago on the 11th of September?

The thing is they are not stay with the farms anymore. They are taking jobs that american would do but since they are cheap labor business would hire them. The reason why they do is because the business don't have to pay them higher wages or any medical for them. You know from what I been reading and seeing is the only job that most American would not do is Farming. So don't give me that cr*p about they do jobs that american won't do.

Great thinking here. You actually made a great point with reasoning and facts about how reality is.

You should hang out here more in the immigration forum just so you can taste a little bit of American ignorance and racism. Just look at it now from the answers already. Ignorance = Racism.

My hat is off for you.

Have you seen the anwsers of my question I just asked? People say that Immigrants are a bigger threat because they smell bad. LOL!! And the funniest part is that they mean it!!!!
