you know what i would do, i would take my dog to the pet salon, let them groom and wash the dog. OR just shave the dog and let him/her start over.

I have 2 cats, but the stuff is for dogs and cats. But I use Frontline Spray, its like 34 dollars a bottle and with my two cats, which are fatties, it last 3 months. Depending on how big the dog is you could use more or less. But the stuff is awesome. You spray it on the animal, once a month, you spray it on them until they are soaked. Then you let it dry. It kills the fleas instantly and you don't have to do any special cleaing in your house. When the pet lays in his favorite spot and sheds, the medicine is still on the spray and it get into the carpet fibers, in the couch, beds, what not and it kills all the remaining eggs and fleas. And then if a flea jumps on the animal it kills them too. It really is a really great product, well worth the price. And you can get that from your vet.

Why spend all that money? My dogs had fleas two summers ago, and we went to walmart and bought a special flea shampoo, Hartz brand I think, and a spray bottle of a liquid that you sprayed on and rubbed into their fur. It was a red bottle, I think also Hartz brand. Cleared the problem up right away! I guess you may need the expensive medications if your dogs have constant flea problems, but ours do not.

I have always used Frontline Plus with my dogs and cats and we haven't had a flea or tick issue. Advantage is not as good, as it only deals with fleas and not ticks. K-9 Advantix is better than Advantage, but I was told it wasn't safe to use on my dogs because I have cats and it is dangerous to cats. I believe Petmeds.com has on its site a way to compare these products for yourself. (I know I've read these comparisons before somewhere!)

Definitely Advantage

Frontline and advantage are both very good medication.

Advantix, a product of advantage, also takes care of ticks.

Don't buy anything over the counter, the medications used and the amount of medication in them aren't enough to repel or kill parasites.

Front Line has worked better, by far, and I have tried them all. However, fleas tend to develope an immunity to any of them after a few years. Try one, then the other, then see which one you think works best. Use the one you like, then switch after a couple or three years.

I prefer Frontline plus, but if you want something less expensive, try Bio-spot.You can buy it at most pet stores, but if you have cats, you have to keep them away from the dog for 24 hrs. because it's toxic to cats.Make sure you get the right dose for your dog's weight.
