Between a wireless or Shotgun type?
What brand/model - approx $100?

Well seeing as the Camcorder is an entry level device it's going to be hard to find an external mic that will connect to your existing camera, infact there probably isn't one. I would recommend looking into a few external mics since your camera is equipped with cold shoe connectors:

I would recommend this one if you could find it:

as it would probably give you the highest level of sound quality for a resonable price. If not check this one out:

All great examples, goodluck!

I go with wireless mics on the Minister, Bride, & Groom. Less wind noise and can control the levels for each person individually. Run the outputs to a mixer and feed the mixer to the camera or a seperate recorder. Minimizes the crowd noises also. Do get some throat clearing.

Low end, schmow end! Ha!

Almost every camcorder I've seen has hook ups for remotes, microphones and audio monitoring. The following link is a wireless set up that I personally use:

On my low end, schmow end Sony HCR 65 (MiniDV) this wireless setup produces phenomenal sound. I taped a horse clinic with the clinician (an Olympic Silver medalist) riding over fences and speaking while riding with superb results. My DVD's were a big hit at the event because the "pro" sound system kept cutting in and out. I got it all! Do that with your "pro" set up.

It's never the capability of the equipment that's the problem, it's what's on the other end ...

id say go for a shotgun mic, or a omni mic with a limited pickup range.
