I just bought a 99 gsx eclipse from my brother a week ago and somebody already laid their eye on it. It was broken with the intent to steal it. They came back but I was out already. I locked it with the stock security system, and it was opened with not problem by a couple of punks, I wish I saw their licence plate. Anyway, the question is, how could they have broken in so easily and what is the most effective system against theft, has to be cheap. Thanks in advance.

I have a 90 Celica GTS so I know what you mean.

I have a few anti theft devices in:

1) VIN etching on rims
2) Ignition is disabled until alarm is deactivated (meaning even the key won't work without the thing turned off) and steering is locked so even if they do cut the wires, they'd need to cut the alarm and then reboost the car and even then the steering is a separate relay
3) GPS, you get a good system, tell the police you have a GPS in your car, and there ya go

You simply need an alarm with a big flashy light on it, they will not even look at it.
If you buy a good one, if they do manage to get in they are black wired, meaning they will not know what wires to cut, plus the 5 star ones are duel imobiliser, so if they do cut the correct wire, either the fuel is cut or the electrics will simply not work for them.

Eclipses along with many other Japanese cars are stolen often because they're easy and have some resale value...There's some decent security systems out there...Or if you want, find the fuel cut-off switch on it and turn off the fuel pump whenever you get out...Just hope they don't know where it is.

Sorry.. you stand a decent chance of pouncing them off the line but thats it. As soon as the other two start putting all their power down you'll fall behind quickly.

park in a garage or spend some money to put a quality alarm system in.. i like silent ones best..nothing like seeing the look on the thief's face when the cops show up and catch them... or get a gps in you car to find it when it does get stolen.
