If cookie dough was dangerous, I'd be dead by now. Seriously. salmonella is usually contracted by humans from un or under cooked meat products or eggs. It originates in the GI tract of animals and the feces of a diseased animal can be passed to people either through such food or infected food preparers.
That is not entirely an unequivocal answer, but I'm pretty sure that cookie dough is safe; safe enough for cookie dough ice cream.

YES - it is the raw eggs that could contribute the salmonella.

The cookie dough in ice cream and candies - doesnt get cooked - so they dont need the eggs (the egg protein helps keep the cookies together as a cookie, instead of a pile of crumbs) - which is why that type of dough is not bad for you.

Yes if it is not refrigerated enough. Cookie dough has raw egg in it that has not been cooked. If the egg gets to warm it can create salmonella that will make you sick. Stay healthy and listen to what your aunt said.

Well from the raw eggs you can get ecoli. Which is just as bad as salmonella. Now the stuff you buy in the store like the cookie dough ice cream and so forth, I am not sure what they do to make it safe. But I am guessing it is OK or they could not sell it.

It isnt the cookie dough itself that can cause salmonella but the uncooked eggs in the mix. One should never eat uncooked eggs as they are a major source of salmonella and can make you very ill.

That is not always true about eating raw cookie dough. There is a chance you can get salmonella, but not a guarantee.

IT is true it is because of the raw eggs in cookie dough. You should avoid eating cookie dough, especially if you have a weakened immune system.
