I am 24 and engaged.I had a child 2 weeks ago. Before I delivered, I talked to my father nearly everyday. Now, however, when I talk to him we have nothing to talk about and he is very distant acting toward me. He loves his grand daughter, but I am upset about our relationship we have now. Could this be him adjusting to being a grandpa and his own daughter being a mother, or should I try harder to talk to him?

recently I went through something like what your father is going through now. It's hard as a father to see your daughter grow up to motherhood and womanhood. Apparently, he has excepted that his little girl is now a mom, but is having problems adjusting to your motherhood. Talk to him and show him your love and I assure you it will work out because you will always be his little girl. Let him know that Dad is still needed in your life.

i think he needs more time to adjust to the situation, like you said. men are funny. they tend to be like bears and go into their caves to hibernate when they are dealing with emotional issues. women, on the other hand, tend to feel the need to talk about emotional issues with whoever will listen. so give him some more time and dont force the issue. he will come out of his cave when he is ready. just let him know you are there and that you still care about your relationship with him.

It's only been two weeks. I don't think it's anything to get too worried about. Especially not yet. Let things calm down and get a little bit more back to normal.

give him time to adjust. he just became a grandpa and may feel that he lost his baby girl to motherhood.

Now that you have your little girl maybe he thinks he has lost his little girl or that you don't have time for him...Let him know that he is still a big part of your life
