When you are "sworn in" in a court room, you raise your right hand and are asked, "Do you promise to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?". But yet religious, moral, and ethical values have no bearing in a court case. What's the point of taking an oath before "God" and on the Bible if they aren't going to allow you to use the Bible as a defense in the court? Tell me what you think.

What I meant was why can't common sense, moral, ethical, and logical reasoning be used in a court room. And if you are to be sworn in on a bible, why can't you use the bible in the court room?

I don't know there is no relious value in this country that is for sure. I think it Just wait people to sware before God cause God going to get them when really you should not be lying in the first that got you there. I don't think we should be doing the things we do every day that would get us in the courtroom so we swaring before God not to lying when we should be swaring that way to live our lives on the bible courtroom or no courtroom.

Most courts no longer say "so help you god" AND you can refuse to state that. You must, however, swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

I have had to testify and write many affidavits in my lifetime, and I've never "sworn to tell the truth and the whole truth so help me God" once... I always "...affirm to tell the truth and nothing but the truth under penalty of perjury."

no but consider this..you swear to tell the truth blah blah blah but what is perjury. if you lie but if the lie in no way helps you it is not perjury; but there is no punishment for lying in court even though you swear to tell the truth.. but it is illegal to lie to a cop;
