i color my hair about every other month and i do both, go to salon and my own. your hair should take to the box color if your going brown, however it will be a little lighter in the places where the highlights are. it won't look bad just like natural brown highlights. i've done that many times. i've been doing my hair since jr. highschool and that's been awhile, but if you're still uncertain go get it professionally done.

You should really avoid using box color. Once you use it, it's very hard to get your hair back to normal. Been there, done that. Also, my hairdressers have told me that a lot of the box dyes have metallics in the color. So when you go to have your hair professionally done again, the color is very hard to get right.
I think you should just spend the money and keep doing it by a professional. If you dont want the expensive upkeep, choose colors that are more natural. (I have medium brown hair and have dark blonde highlights with a little red. I rarely have a "root showing" problem)

You can do your hair just fine with a box...using an ash will help keep red out, but I would suggest using a shade such as medium ash brown. This color will give you a nice brown, but not too dark of a change at first, and in another month or so you can do it again with a darker color if you wish. I am a licensed cosmotologist and love doing hair color! Just remember to condition and use a deep conditioning treatment at least once every two weeks. Going to your stylist for treatment is the best bet, but the box is fine. Good luck.

Absolutely, a box color will work! I actually went from a platinum blonde to a dark brown after the birth of my second child. I simply didn't have the time to spend at the salon anymore, and I felt like I needed a new look. With the first box, the dark color faded quickly and took on some red tones due to the super blonde high lights I had before. After the 3rd time I colored it (6 weeks apart each time), it held the color very well. I enjoyed the ease of doing it myself, and loved the money saved. :) Oh, and do not use an ash color! It will turn blonde a greenish brown! Use like a medium brown or dark brown. Good luck!

Yes you can use a box dye-I do it all the time when I get bored of my highlights- just be careful of the colors undertone. any way u do it after some time - where your highlights were will lighten/change color a bit, exp. if you are out in the sun. I would suggest a gentle formula and spend the $ on really good conditioner. good luck

Thing about dark over light is that the lighter hair is stripped and very dry..it could turn out way darker than you want. I would see your stylist, she could put a filler on first (I think that's what it's called) and either do permanent or maybe a semipermanent so you could try it out in the short term. I wouldn't do the semipermanent at home though because it could go a weird color also.

BE CAREFUL!
Your blonde hair is going to be very porous, and some of it will soak up a lot of color, while other parts not so much.
Do NOT use anything "ash" - it will turn out hunter green! [yes, for real!!]
I would go to Sally Beauty Supply and buy a porosity corrector if you are really going to do it yourself.
But if your hair is damaged - it really will be worth the money to go have it done at a salon.

It will be damaged (like with any dye) but it should be fine. I would suggest getting a nice shampoo/ conditioner for damaged and/ or color treated hair. I personally love Dove products. Hope I helped and good luck!

If your hair is blonde then u can put any dark color and darken it. It will not spoil the texture if u go darker. But if u want to go lighter then ur hair lady will have to lighten it with bleach and that will damage it. so go ahead n darken it if u want!
