you are right I think there are parts that everyone wants to hurry over, that is human nature. But yes the entire bible has so much value to us all

Some of the Old Testament is difficult to understand because it relates to Jewish customs and practices and some even require an understanding of Jewish thought-form.
That is not to say you should just "skip" it; but if you use a modern translation (or even a paraphrase, as long as you understand it is just a paraphrase) and maybe even an edition that has notes and comments along with the Scriptures (often at the bottom of the pages or along the outer margins of the pages) then it will become easier to understand.
Also, try to think of the concept that the
New is in the Old contained
and the
Old is in the New explained.

The Old Testament is good reading along with the New Testament. It tells more of the history of the people and what was going on and I find it interesting. I usually skim over the genealogy parts though.

Every part of Gods word has something to tell us literally and allegorically. I was thrilled in the book of Zephaniah to learn that God sings. With prayer to rightly divide the word of truth. Old and new should be read back and forth.
As Paul called the old as the shadow of things to come. When Jesus told the apostles that they should have understood the parables. All anyone had was the old testament

I start in Mark then I go to Matthew and read the entire new testament including Mark, and then Genesis to Malachi.
I do not leave anything out.

I would recomend reading the whole thing, though I admit the new testament is easier to read most of the time. If you want to finish in 1 year, get a reading plan of www.biblegateway.com, or you can finish in 3 years by reading one chapter every day.

I dare say the most crucial parts of the OT are Genesis, Moses (all books containing him), Judges, , the books of the kings, psalms, and proverbs. You do of coarse need to read the whole Bible cover to cover to say you have, but there is nothing wrong with returning to the books that continue to speak to you and teach you new truths from God you never saw before.

I love the old testament it really lets you know who God is, the new testament doesnt it tells you a lil about Christ, in 4 books but in those books its the same basic story's. Then Paul has like 5 book? or more. Not enough about christ. But the old testament says plenty about god

You can always go to a christian book store or Wal-mart for that matter and get a companion for the Bible, a study guide, to help you study.
