Sadness over the death of a loved one can only be motivated by selfishness.
What other reason is there if "I" am sad because "I" will miss them. Our loved ones rejoice when they leave.
The Chinese have a saying.
When a baby is born into this world, everyone rejoices and the baby cries alone. When an old person dies, eveyone cries. And the dead person rejoices alone.
Death is a natural part of life. It is a very beautiful thing. This life is only an illusion. Time and space are only illusions. We are omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent beings in our natural state. We choose to forget our divine nature and knowledge in order to come to this world and live as a limited human being. Our bodies are temporary "earth suits". You can't operate in this realm without one. When we die, our bodies simply drop off like a bathrobe. We return our our previous state, and remember our divine nature.
We choose our parents before we are born. We choose the tragedies in our lives before we are born. We choose major events and circumstances such as disease, loss, poverty, and pain. While we are in our divine state, we know these tragedies are only temporary illusions. They cannot harm us. But we forget that knowledge in order to come here and play the game. It is like Shakespere said, "All the world is a stage", and we are just playing a role, or part. It is not who we really are. What was your name before your parents were born?
Our deaths should be something to celebrate instead of mourn. I look forward to each incarnation. I look forward to each birth and death. I have died on this planet many times, and have returned many times to continue my adventure of learning, growing, evolving, and experiencing.
I still haven't lived a life of complete love, compassion, giving, forgiveness, grace, and beauty. But I get closer every time. I will keep trying until I get it right.
I apologize that it takes me more than one lifetime to understand all the mysteries of God and creation. Sixty or seventy years in one lifetime is not enough for me. Eventually, I'll figure it out and I won't return. I guess I'm a little slower than everyone else and need more time. Please be patient with me. I 'll catch up.
In the mean time, I'll celebrate each journey home and I'll be happy when my loved ones go.

When someone dies that we do not know we feel sadness b/c we relate that person to our life or to someone in our life whose death would make us sad. Plus, humans have the gift of being sympathetic... its an important part of every person (I hope).

Hmm.. probably the seperation and the thought of never seeing that person animated until your own demise. Not being able to talk to them until you're there with them, knowing that they're permanently elsewhere while you're still living. Aha! It's living guilt! You're guilty because they're dead; reguardless of whether or not you had any direct relation to their death.

When someone dies we cry, not over the death but because we no longer have that person. Rest assured that the dead know nothing. So we cry for ourselves, not for the deceased.
