I was with the first calvary division of the U.S.Army in South Viet Nam in 1966. While in division area I was nearly bitten by a cobra snake[struck my pant leg]. I was wondering if anybody can tell me if the military was prepared for such an emergency that would have occurred if snake had not missed it's mark..

There are a number of people who have survived the cobra's bite and having been in the service at the time my bet is that anti-venom was available. how close you were to that treatment is another factor. The black mamba is a snake of a different color.

No, I don't think the military was or could had prepared you for that. If you'd had died from a snake bite. According to them, you died fighting for your country - regardless of how you died. Just think, of how many soldiers died that way and all they could say was; " He died on the line of duty. " Do you think, it could made or make a difference of the way you died to your family?
How many soldiers have died in Iraq from snake bites, or scorpion stings or some other poisonous animal? The % is probably low but the reality is that they are dead. Regardless of the reason. If the bullets, missiles, mines, or bombs didn't kill you, - the poisonous animals did.

I was there in August of 1990. Desert Storm

i am sure they would have given you a good funeral. the cobras venom is potent enough to kill a person in a very short time. there is really nothing that could have been done.
