To remove pet urine smell from carpets have them cleaned using a steam cleaner with a special additive in the cleaner liquid. The special additive has a fresh smell that replaces that of the urine. It works exceedingly well, and we do it frequently here at our house. In fact, I often hire out to do the same things to other peoples houses.

Nature's Miracle works best for dog urine and I've seen a Nature's Miracle formula for cat urine as well, but haven't tried it. Use a "black light" to scan over your carpet to illuminate other "hidden" spots that you can't actually see, but are causing odors. The "black light" will cause the spot to become luminous. All items can be purchased at Petco or any pet store.
