We've known each other for years. Today, he called me and said he loved me in a more than friend way. I only like him as a friend. I don't know how to tell him. I know it's always the "let's just bee friends" speech, right? Well, that's a load. All that does is make things worse. Everyone knows that. Should I ignore it?

Well, likely your friendship is forever changed. You really need to tell him the truth. Not the "let's just be friends" which we all know means go away. Just be honest, you value your friendship but you don't have those feelings and don't expect to.

Then you'll probably have to chill on the friendship for awhile to give him a chance to get over it. If you don't he'll likely hang around and "puppy" hoping you'll change your mind, and that will just make you want to push him away altogether.

So tell him the truth, clearly and blunty, then ignore him for awhile. Hopefully in a few months, you can resume the friendship.

But in this case he'll know you mean it. You have to tell him you just don't feel that way. I have a best guy friend who asks if we can kick it to another level almost EVERY conversation we have, but I've never felt that way about him and we've been friends for about 10yrs. If its not there, its just not and he needs to know that.

Let him know that you are flattered by that, but at this time you are not ready to take your relationship with him to that level, and may possibly never be, but that it is good to know that you can, if ever you decide to.

This will make him feel a little better, and give him a little hope, without committing yourself to something you might never feel.

Tell him he's your best friend. If you two dated, which would be great, then broke up, chances are you wouldn't be friends anymore. Tell him you couldn't bear to lose him as your best friend. Not a risk you are willing to take.

Over the years in my experience, i've realised that to be completely honest in your words to the other person is the best option. don't bother cranking your brains just tell him the truth....

there can be only one reason why you only want to be just friends.....you aren't physically attracted to him. everything else seems to be alright about the poor guy, cause he's been your best-es friend for FIVE YEARS. don't lie to yourself just tell him the real reason or stop tagging him along,.....guys and girls cannot be friends period
