the cat would get rather annoyed, but would land on its feet. Apart from the VERY SLIGHT weight added to the buttered side of the toast by the butter, there is no reasons for toast landing buttered side up - it's just that people tend to notice this more because it's very inconvenient.

I think the cat would land on her feet because the buttered toast landing buttered side down is a myth.

Cats DON'T always land on their feet - just the vast majority of the time...and I'm thinking one being upset by buttered toast tied to a cat's back would put it in the DON'T category.

first of all the reason the toast lands butter side down isn't the weight of the butter but, the height of the countertop in relationship to the floor, try this by only marking the toast on the one side and push it off the counter it will land upside down everytime , next have you ever thought about the amount of stitches you would need after trying to tie the toast to the cat.... i personally would suggest some sort of "instant " adhesive instead of string .... good luck in your endeavors.....

Various theories are still being tested as there are many factors to be considered such as the landing surface, height of the drop, salted or unsalted butter, toastiness of the toast, what is used to tie the cat and toast together, will wind be a factor, will the toast be cooled or warm, will the cat be fat or thin, will the cat be fond of toast.......

That would probably depend on whether the toast was butter side up, or butter side down wouldn't it?

And once again, given the fact that you apparently believe in these myths, it would depend on which way you placed the toast on the cats back. Butterside down or up?

This, although it "sounds" cute, is disturbing to me, because I've known many an asinine person (usually a male human) to deliberately throw cats into the air as high as they can to "prove" to their children that a cat will "always" land on its feet. This isn't true, since I witnessed this exact thing done to one, and the poor thing crawled away, obviously very injured, and never returned to its owner.
So much for "cute."
