The egg cleansing is used in Santeria by either a santero or santera. The egg is said to help draw out the illness. It is also used alot for cleansings.

Eggs have also been used during misa's to cleanse the area for the spirits. It is dropped into a glass of water that is on the altar.

It is not trickery. This has been going on for hundreds of years just like some healers from the Caribbean
who uses chickens to absorb sickness from people who has various diseases.

There are many rituals involving eggs as eggs are sacred objects in many cultures. There is a spell I do when I need to "get over" something (I tend to obsess) and my path is European, though I'm sure it's common in other paths as well. Diseases and other things can be poured into the egg too. I know voodoo rituals that have a chicken absorb the sickness, but we can't be killing chickens in suburban Detroit, so we use eggs. It's really quite helpful. The egg contains the essence of life, and all the elements. It is a very holy object.

No, it's not witchcraft. It's actually an old house remedy usually used to cleanse the body, particularly babies. You take the egg and rub it all over a person's body in the form of a cross while saying a prayer. Ever heard of curandera's?

It is an old fortune tellers trick. They rub an egg all over your body...then break the egg and a vile liquid oozes out.
Its all a scam.
They switch the egg with a prepared nasty egg.
