Immigrants make up a bigger percent of our population than anywhere else on Earth (except perhaps Canada and Australia). If tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to be free was so bad, how did America get to be the world's leading power? (Lord, I hope you don't say 'because they came from Europe'.)

Assuming all illegal immigrants left the country and re-applied legally (and we had a large enough quota to accomodate them) wouldn't America be even richer overall and more powerful...just as it has always done when immigrants came? If so, then why go through the exercise of deporting and re-applying?...why not just a small fine (if you require some sort of punishment) and get on with it?

The reason why is because of free enterprise...we are allowed to have our own business and have the freedom of speech...we don't have (like other countries) a government that is always on us about when and where and how and why we can start a business...my sister and her husband just started their own business its easy just go and get a business license...that's all you need and you run your own business..America is a thriving country because of its diversity...we have so many wonderful cultures and lifestyles...I hope that answered your question

Why do you assume all immigrants are poor? Many immigrants are here because of their education in their native countries, and they come here and get a job in the silicon valley, pulling in 100gs a yr whereass in India or China they would make far, far less. German doctors leave and come here because our pay in the medical field is far better. My uncle came because he had a million bucks to invest and was automatically granted green card. Look at Jewish immigrants and Asian (specifically Chinese) immigrants, look at how they soar through our education system and land those huge paychecks.

immigrants are the backbone of our economy. they provide cheap labor, allowing our economy to flourish. The immigrants realize that they are obviously illegal and that if they haggle their wages they will be deported and may not make it back into the country. Not to mention this country has won every war it's been in and we basically live off of outsourcing. We live on a continent that has only been dug up and mined for several hundred years, and we are rich in minerals.

Small fine? What would they pay it with? American taxpayer's money that the illegal immigrant is already getting from the system through welfare or medical care or free education? So all they would be doing is paying us back what we already gave them...

Most illegals are sending their money back to whatever country they came from to begin with, so they are not here for the citizenship or to help America better itself. As an American Taxpayer, how does that help me?

Because LEGAL immigrants came to this country and worked their a--es off for a better life and achieved that. They did not come illegally to suck the system dry and not give anything back.

Where exactly are you getting your pot?
If illegals were somehow granted citizenship and got the low paying jobs back, the way our tax system is, they wouldn't owe any taxes on the low wages. So they wouldn't be putting anything into our society but would be getting the benefits that middle and upper tax bracket citizens pay for.

Well you see, those poor huddled masses got off their asses and worked and worked hard. They didn't come here and look for welfare and to sit on their butts. They came here for the opportunity to get ahead and have the freedom to do it. They know and appreciate the freedoms this country has to offer.

USA supports business and has relatively low taxes when compared to Europe.

We also have peace, rule of law, and a relatively decent law system. You cannot have prosperity if the streets are in chaos.

America was created by illegal immegrants. If America's laws weren't so rigid, then maybe there wouldn't be so many illegal aliens. Maybe that's the problem.

Well back in the day when people immigrated here legally those people assimilated into our culture.. These illegals that come here think we should adapt to them.... I don't think so. You come into my house you obey my rules not force me to bow to yours.
