birds roost for the night..sounds like the nest is a safe roosting spot. He obviously is already fledged and foraging on his own if he is gone all day and returns in the evening. He may roost there for some time until he feels safe enough to find another spot. Leave him be.

He obviously enjoys his home, why leave? Swallows are wonderful birds to have around, enjoy him and reap the benefits while doing so.

maybe he returns at night because the nest means safety
and comfort for him
