Should not the Pope and the entire Christian World therefore appologise to the whole world for the big deceit that led to the Inquisition, Slave-trade, Apartheid and wars inflicted on mankind over the ages. As well pay reparations to the Jews and Blacks inparticular who were victims of the celebrated Biblical curse.

the encyclo is in error.

Besides, the pope( eve the title pope), has virtually nothing to do with true Christianity.

And if you want to talk reparations, how far back is the limit?
Throughout history there is much more injustice committed by humans than just those apostates that called themselves 'Christian'.

True Christians have never committed a single act of violence or repression against even one of God's creatures.

Because people have believed it to be the holy and infallible word of God, the Bible grew to be the most highly studied and scrutinized text of any from Antiquity ... and that's it's own undoing. The writers of its various books, those to tampered with texts, those to included some books and excluded others based on whim, none of them ever imagined that centuries later there would develop a body of scholarship and scientific methodology to study not only word use, but the very ink and writing materials. The higher the level of the expert's knowledge, the more circumspect they generally are about rocking the boat. The faith of modern-day believers doesn't rest all that much on history, nor do they know all that much, as a rule, about the wicked things done by the Christians who effectively hijacked the Roman Empire nearly seventeen centuries ago. Non-Christians committed many foul deeds too, and histoty is not exactly full of sincere apologies. Personally I believe that people are only responsible for their own deeds in the here-and-now --- not those of ancestors or those said to flow from the taint of "original sin".

The important thing is that Christianity eventually embraced most of the culture it once actively destroyed. After the Renaissance reconnected with the classical roots of Western civilization, a ferment of cultural change gave way to the "Enlightenment" and the present technological age. Christianity has changed and evolved as well; it's still changing and the mainstream views have become more humane as a result.

What's most urgent in the world is that Islam pass through a similar "Enlightenment" that emphasizes humanity over dogma. It is inevitable, but the question is how much suffering will be endured in East and West before that social transformation brings the Islamic world into a modern phase. Many are fighting it, just as the Savonarolas and Cotton Mathers did in their day. About God or Gods, it is the lack of real knowledge that is the significant feature ;)

People think they know quite a bit and want to force others to know it too. We'll get past all that when people come to realize that the expected Apocalypse doesn't happen, and that whatever tragic wars madmen start, nothing "heavenly" comes to victors or victims. People can choose to express their religious faith only in constructive ways and respect that others may have no faith and yet be at least equally good and ethical.

I don't believe it's built on a lie. It seems to be more akin to the story of King Arthur... where there was, as most historians have said, certain kings that did certain things... which were built upon to give us the legend we have today. Most things like this are built upon an actual person and SOME actual circumstances... but it has been embellished to the point that no one really knows what is true and what isn't.

And the last pope did apologize for the Inquisitions (more than one), among other things. Though he never said anything about whether or not he believed any of his beliefs were wrong.... no religious leader would do that. The whole thing would crumble around his ears and he would be poor. ^_^

Christianity is based on a foundation by Constantine who re-worked the Bible to suit his needs and re-worked the religion to be a power base and succeeded quite well at it until Henry VIII and Martin Luther and then the church made some fatals errors that cost them half the world.

This does not make Jesus a lie, it makes origanized religon out to be in it for more things, orignaly, then just pure religion.

There are lots of hole and missing pieces in the tapestry of religion, just like there is in science and Darwinsm, yet science and Darwin seem to get along quite well.

Take the most recent, the demotion of Pluto as a planet. The definition of a planet. Some scientists say it reads more like legal gobbly **** than science.

There is a lack of archaological evidence we know of TODAY for both Jesus and for that matter Moses and the slavery of Jew in Egypt. So little evidence exists the Egyptians are well withint their right to say it's fabricated.

BUT, we may yet uncover archoloegical evidence that proves otherwise, thus Egypt isn't going out on a limb.

Just because hard evidences doesn't exist, doesn't invalidate how things are, if that were so, then there is NO hard evidence for Darwin and it shouldn't be taught in lower level schools outside of College. But it is taught.

There is plenty of hard evidence that Jews lived in Palestine and Jerusalem long before JEsus, yet Palestinian Arabs will not buy this definate evidence that shows they have as much right to live in that area as Arabs. The Arabs want them out, plain and simple.

HArd evidece, therefore, means nothing when an opinion is involved.

PEople simply chose to beleive whatever they want to beleive.

If you chose to believe that encyclopeadia, go ahead, but first look up Pluto and see what it has to say about that non-planet!

See, even encylopedias get it wrong when the evidence changes or the opinions change.

No it's not. First, give the encyclopedia that you speak of. Second, all those acts were done by men. Claiming your a Christian doesn't necessarily mean you are one. What about the Islamic fanatics who have killed people throughout the ages, and are still doing it!? You hate God, you hate Christians. If it was legal to kill Christians, you'd probably be one of the first in line, so get down off of your high horse! Btw, what in the world is the "celebrated Biblical curse" you're talking about?
And last but certainly not least, your question is asinine.

Wow...there are so many things to say about your question that I cannot even think of where to begin...but just know this. Christianity is a faith, and those who are true believers do not force their beliefs on others. If a Christian talks to you about his or her faith, it is only because that person truly cares about you and wants to save your soul and help you create a wonderful realtionship with the Lord. We will not force you to declare Christ your Lord, as some other "people of faith" have done and are doing this day. Some people who call themselves Christians may try to force their faith upon you or create some kind of conflict as you mention, but true believers will not do such a thing. There are many hypocrites out there, along with fakes, frauds, and many other demonic influences. Also, remember that no one is perfect, even Christians. Apologize for what, now? True Christians have absolutely nothing to apologize for, we are allowed to believe what we want. Perhaps you should read a little more from legit sources before you continue to accuse falsely...and trust me, it's not just you...many people out there are misinformed and led to believe certain things about certain people...most of the time you will find different truths if you take the time to look into it a bit. God bless.

You just pick out some of the negative things that happened under Christianity. What about all of the schools, hospitals and charities that Christians built and provided for the good of mankind?
Do you think that all of the people that gave up their lives in the beginnings of Christianity did so because it was all a big lie?

Ridiculous question assuming God isn't real.

If the pope accepted marriage as being godly and if he stopped the Nicene Creed errors in the trinity other Christians would like the guy. But since he has done nothing, oh well.

Which encyclopedia? That's very convenient to make a claim with no context or proof, and then launch into a diatribe.

Your "question" is B.S. Your "If-then" statement is B.S. Your hatred for Christianity is blatant. Have the guts to ask a real question next time.

Christianity is a belief system, based loosely on historical allegory.

Just because certain facts may not turn out to be true by some objective standard, doesn't mean the stories and the messages are invalid.
