Ok from what I've seen here from some of the answers (and sorry guys but I gotta say I haven't been impressed with your answers) that they really aren't sure about either their discipline or they just don't know at all.

some of the weapons that TKD uses are as follows: Nunchakus, Tonfa, Bo staff, Sai, & Kama are the main basics weapons forms to choose from, and also have some video or dvd movies to watch and get a few ideas from their performance. The weapons are often for competition as you can't have them on the street with you, unless you'd rather have assault charges pressed against you.

Depending on the discipline's affiliation, you can start within the yellow belt or orange, but may not be allowed to compete until you've attained blue belt to green belt status due to your ability to perform your movements with the choreography of the reflexes for the weapons with a good amount of control, which will be up to your instructor, or the rules of the school or competitions you go to.

I have been involved with many TKD organizations and currently hold a 3rd Dan in two. I know that weapons are not required for the basic TKD curriculum. TKD is about using the empty hand a the feet. Look through associations text books and you will not find weapons. Some instructors like myself add in weapons but remember it is an add on.

America Taekwondo Association uses:
Ssahng Nat = Kama (Sickle)
Jahng Bong = Long Stick
Sam Dan Bong = Three-Sectional Staff
Ssahng Jeol Bong = Nunchuku (Connected Sticks)
Jee Pahng Ee = Cane
Bahng Mahng Ee = Stick
Gum Do = Sword
Any belts. Color belts do freestyle weapons but Gum Do, Jee Pahng Ee, Sam Dan Bong are not included it. Black Belts do all except some of the weapons at their level.
