There is no site specific way of losing fat... the old myth about working your abs to burn belly fat isn't true. To get rid of love handles, you need to lose overall fat. That happens with exercise and watching your diet. More on that below.
The most effective way to lose fat is aerobic exercise in the "moderate" fat-burning range, ideally first thing in the morning before you eat. When you wake your body is ready to burn fat and your levels of growth hormone are highest at that time. Later in the day it can take up to 30 minutes just to put your body into a fat-burning mode.
Another overlooked way to burn fat is by lifting weights. Skeletal muscle has very high caloric needs... almost twice that of adipose (fat) tissue. Put on a little muscle and you will burn calories all day even at rest. Be aware that skeletal muscle weighs more, so with this approach you may see your weight increasing while your body fat is melting away. Not realizing this often stresses folks who think they should be losing weight as a measure of fitness. Forget the scale, look in the mirror and you will be happy.
For diet, keep a diary for a couple of weeks counting calories, grams of protein, and grams of fat intake. It is easy with online sources of nutritional information (type the name of the food and calories into the Google search engine) and packaging labels. That will let you quickly figure out where the fat is coming from in your diet.
Fat gives you 9 calories per gram. So take the number of grams of fat, multiply by 9, then calculate what percentage the fat calories are of your total daily calories. Restricting the calories from fat to about 20% of your total intake is ideal for a maintenance diet... that isn't overly restrictive. Of note, you need some fat in your diet. For instance, the body uses fat to produce hormones. Once you have a picture of how to modify your diet, you can drop the diary and just go back to it occasionally if you are wanting to tweek things further.
There is a subset of questions that goes further and asks about "How to get a six-pack?" The answer is the same. Six-packs are 20% abdominal exercise and 80% diet. There is one caveat... abdominal muscles will form in the position that you exercise them, so be certain to pull them tightly toward your spine while doing crunches, etc. Also, during most lifting, the "core is active" which means that you should be stabilizing with contracted abs then too. Fail to do this and the abs will form, but bulging outward and the result is not attractive.
If you are trying to build muscle as a way to lose fat, then you may need to increase total calories and specifically your protein intake. I target about 0.8 g of protein per pound of body weight each day when actively building. That is far more protein than most people need in their diets.
Hope this is helpful to someone.

You need to treat your abs like any other muscles. If you do ab training every day like a freak... then you might turn out to become a freak.
Ab training should not be done for more than 2 days/week.
Another thing about training I have is... People don't mind doing 100's of sit ups but when you ask them to add some weight in their ab training they look at me like I am crazy.
I am going to give you some exercises right now...
1. Butt Ups : This might look like girlie exercise but don't shy away.
2. Ab Roller This is big daddy of all the ab exercises.
3. Sit up/Crunch : Your normal Sit ups are still the best
4. Reverse Crunch : like the name says.. They are reverse crunch... You lie down on mat and lift and bring your legs towards your torso. You can view the exercise picture in google
5. Leg Lift : They are easy to do.
For starters these exercises are good enough.
1. Sit up/ crunch : 10 X 3.
2. Reverse Crunch : 10 X 3
3. Leg Lift: 10 X 3
4. Ab Roller : As much as you can do. That doesn't mean you tire yourself out. If you have never done this then you might find it tough even for 5 reps. Persist in learning proper form.
Note (You can alternate ab roller with Butt ups). You only need to do 4 exercises.

Along with your regular work out try adding in 30+ minutes of cardio every workout. My brother in law is a competative body builder and lifts all the time too. But when he`s prepping for a contest and wants to cut fat he adds 2 hours of cardio every day. Most people don`t need that much, but 30-60 minutes on a bike or treadmill after you lift will burn that gut off in no time.

Doing just sit-ups and kicks isn't going to make you lose the fat. It will only tone up your ab muscles. The fat that you see is covering your ab muscles and to lose that you need to do cardiovascular activities to really get your heart pumping. I think it's recommended that you do about 30 - 45 minutes a day of that.

I have read that cardio is jmore important than doing abdominal exercises, like sit-ups. Cardio will help burn the fat for you! You could do 1000 sit-ups a day, but see no results if there is still a thick layer of fat over the muscles.

You need to implement some aerobics in your routine. Lower leg lifts. You can also try a medicine ball and twist. Hold your legs in the air while holding the ball in between your knees then do sit ups.
