Hey. I had a main coon once his name was Smokey. He did the blanket thing to. Many cats do. Sometimes its because its "the season" if ya get my drift. Alot of times the cat is just tryin to get comfy. And yes it might be because he was fixed late. Anyways it doesnt mean theres anything wrong with your cat. Thats completly normal. He may stop sooner or later or never.

lol...sweet! All cats do that. It's a carry-over trait from when they were babies. They would "knead" the mama cat to stimulate milk production. This is comforting to them and reminds them of the good old days when they were babies. A blanket reminds them of mama, soft and warm and cozy. So, he's reliving that experience. I hope this explains it! : )
Oh! After reading the other answers, I guess I read the question wrong! LOL! I SEE now! My male cat is fixed and has never humped anything, but he does knead the blankets.

My cat has never humped anything but he was fixed when he was a baby i took him around a female in heat and he hide from her he was scared so your theory on fixin it late in life would be my guess also just because they are fixed doesn't mean they have forgotten what they use to be able to do let him have his fun

Ah, that's way normal my mom's cat Spaz does that with some fleece fabric scraps that we now call his girlfriends. He likes to drag them trough the house meowing and then he will find a comfy spot usually my mom's bed where he will start to kneed biscuits, meow, and hump the air. Then he will take a nap. He didn't start doing this until he was about 4 years old. We just have our giggles about it and leave him to his business.

Well, I have a male persian who is very friendly with a stuffed frog...a subject that sent my vet into giggles. Your cat might have an undescended testicle or he might just enjoy himself. I found that removing the object of our cat's affection helped! I know, it's creepy!
