DVD requires a special CODEC. DIVX is a format of its own. Search under DVD and CODEC and you will get many download options.

Windows Media Player, all be it a great multimedia player, cant seem to handle the simple dvd. Ive had nothing but trouble with WMP and Dvd's. The solution is to not use windows media player, i would recommend AVS DVD Player. It can play DVD's no problem, and its free, you can get it here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/avsdvd.html
Or if you want to pay for a software program, PowerDVD is a very good software dvd player.

DVD is supported naturally in Windows Media Player 10. (atleast mine)

No need to buy divx, or a mac or new software.

Place the dvd in, and select to play from cd or dvd from the menu.

1) Do you have a DVD Drive? Or is is just for CDs?
2) Do you habe a normal DVD Movie? Or a data dvd you have burned some video files to?

A great dvd player is JetAudio, a freeware multimedia player by a company who makes hardware mp3 players. It also has great features for ripping and transcoding music.

Macs support DVD playback, right out of the box. Not only DVD playback, but DVD authoring.

Use the Divx player that came with Divx download. Or you can use Real Player.
