Can anyone with bloodhounds tell me some things about them, particularly if they have a musky odor like other dogs in the hound group? We are thinking about buying a pair and would like to know some opinions on the breed.

I had two basset hounds and they always smelled REALLY bad. It was worse after a bath. They were sweet hearts though. Had a lot of genetic problems; arthrits, bone deformities, etc.

My neighbor has a beautiful blood hound. He is nine months old and 90 pounds!! He doesn't smell at all but man can that dog throw some drool around! When he shakes his head, everyone in a 10 foot radius gets some slobber... LOL
GREAT dog though - very sweet!!

never noticed a musky odor . maybe the smell is from dirt being trapped in all those fold of skin around their heads. if you do get this breed you must keep these areas clean or they will have bad skin irritations in those folds.

They don't stink. They do jump the fence. Mine jumps a 6 foot fence. They are great dogs. Love long walks.

Some breeders and trainers whose articles I've read about bloodhounds say that they smell like Fritos. :)
