I used to breed parakeets so I can really help you here. The bowl in the bottom is fine. Just make sure that the water is no more than 1 inch deep and that you change it EVERY time you see poop in it (or your bird can get sick)! The food you are feeding your bird is parakeet mix which is dry and not near as good for your little bird if it were eating greens! So, what you are going to do is make bird seed plants for your birdie to eat! (You can also use brown rice, beans, etc.) Simply buy or obtain some sand, place in a container filling to 1 inch from the top, sprinkle bird seed generously, cover with sand, water thoroughly. Every week, make a new plant. Your bird will LOVE LOVE LOVE the sprouts that come up! I used to make huge plants like this and put them into the aviary after I'd sprayed them with water. The budgies would get in the plants and roll around in them! They will also eat the greens! Have fun with your little bird and keep it's wings clipped so it doesn't get into trouble! Here's a link on how to trim the flight feathers:

Don't worry it takes a while for parakeets to eat a new food even if you've tried to give it to them for years! Mix small pieces of vegetables or fruit into their favorite food. They nibble it eventually. Don't forget to change it everyday. =)

Generally, birds that are from naturally drier habitats in the wild are not as fond of veges and fruit as birds from more rainy climates. I wouldn't worry about it. Budgies are primarily seed eaters in the wild. Get them onto a pelleted diet - takes about two months to transition them over - and I would use the LaFebers just because the color more resembles their natural diet. Parrots are not tame or domesticated. They still have natural instincts, including what they like to eat.

While fruits and veggis are good for Parakeets, I have had several over the years that have lived good long healthy lives without consuming them.

Try cutting it differently - some birds like corn grains and some like it like wheels - the pieces may be too big or too small. Also remove honey bells and treats from them until they eat healthy - they may just be filling up on 'junk food' Really try cutting the food differently before anything else. Experiment with different sizes and shapes - also different veggies. Try snow peas pre opened but not shelled and apple slices - very thin.

Birds tend to eat mostly what they were mostly first fed. You birds are probably store shop bred. If they never tasted fruits or vegetables you may have a very hard time convincing them to try it.

My birds don't like fruits at all and only a few vegetables. I really think people are jiving us when they say birds like fruits.
Sounds normal to me.. I have tried many ways to get my conure and tiel to eat them and they just don't like them.

If your all that worried.
Don't be, they most likely won't eat it -- because it is too big or they just don't like it.
I recommend buying them budgie food or budgie treats (Honey or Fruit and Veggies).
My birds like those to flavors the best.
P.S. You can feed them Cockitel food if you take out the large sunflower seeds. 'Cause its the same type of food.
