That's a good one. Problem is who conducts the audit? And for what? If it is for the purpose of taxation, then the tax-exempt status of the churches and religious organizations (do clerics pay taxes?) should first be removed. That will upend centuries of the so-called separation of church and state but since the has been acting by itself as a taxing agency by its own (note those 10% tithes) maybe it is time that real sovereignty be exercised by governments.

They should be audited and TAXED by the IRS on a yearly basis. This should be ESPECIALLY true of any church that mixes politics and religion.
That's about 99.99999 percent of them.
At least some of the tax money taken from churches, should be given to the businesses affected by blue laws. That would be fair and just compensation.
Some of it should go to the court system, so prosecuters can be paid for prosecuting church members who bomb abortion clinics.
And tax money taken from the Catholic church, should be awarded to victims of pedophile priests.

It would be interesting to see how much of the money collected ostensibly for the poor actually got to them.
Mother Teresa collected many tens of millions of dollars for the poor and has a couple of warehouses full of camp-beds to show for it. That and a lot of nunneries around the world the main purpose of which are to house nuns and promote Christianity. They wont show the books to anyone, though.

Uncle Joe Stalin would be very proud of you! What do you care how much wealth they have. Whatever they have was VOLUNTARILY given.
How long have you been a Stalinist? Do we all have to seek your personal approval before we make donations to our churches. Perhaps you could provide a list of approved organizations. My faith teaches that ENVY is a sin. Maybe you can work on that?

A Church can spend the money it gets in any way that the leaders see fit, afterall, the money is a donation.
A better question might be... should the Clergy of the Church be paid?...
Does the Church put on a good show to get more money?

Pastors have to pay taxes just like everybody else.
Get over it. If you don't like churches, don't give them any of your money.
Christians are notorious for not only taking care of others, but taking care of their own as well.

Churches still have to pay tax.
Do you feel threatened by Christian churches? What about mosques and synagogues?

Audited by whom? They are private organizations, and allowed to deal with their own property however they see fit.
