Explain to me how Troy Smith has graduated but is still playing for OSU?

The only thing I can think of is some sort of accellerated program, but they said he had off-field problems early in his career so I can't see someone with issues going for something like that.

What's red-shirted mean? (this has been confusing me when watching college games)

Why the hell is this a bad question (I got a thumbs down)?? They said in both games "Troy Smith, who's already graduated"

And where I come from, being in your last year of college, doesn't equal having graduated (and how's it an "extra" year? Most people who go to a 4 year college go 4 years. Just because he's a good football player doesn't mean he can't go all 4 years).

troy smith is a smart and brilliant player however he started school early and redshirted thus giving him a extra year to play and get his degree in communications.

Replace "graduated" with "paroled" and you've got it right!
