Sup Ppl? I Have a Gateway NX200S. I got my XP Home edition system disk keyed for this laptop. I experimented by formatting the laptop and installing XP Pro. The problem is when the XP Setup suppose to finalise the setup, the laptop keeps restarting. When i click start windows normally, same thing. Is only when i chooze safe mode i can go onto windows so i have no choice but to use the XP Home cd i got from gateway. I'm thinking gateway keyed the laptop to take a certain Operating system? if so or not so tell me. Any way i can beat this? Thanks.

I would say that Windows has a bad driver, that is why it keeps rebooting but you can get into safe mode. Your best bet is to try n-Lite to create a custom XP CD for that laptop with all of the right drivers installed. You can also include SP2 if the CD doesn't have SP2 on it.

It just sounds like you got a BOGUS Windows XP Pro disk.

By the way, what makes you think that you need the PRO version at home? You don't have a Domain server on your home network or anything. There isn't any need for it. Just start installing the Windows XP Home edition BACK onto your computer.

You can not install XP on a laptop with pre installed OEM software as it is installed in a protected partition on the hard drive
start the computer in safe mode open windows explorer click on tools on the menu bar at the top/folder options/view/select show hidden files/untickbox hide protected operating system files you will see the hidden folders on your system then look for a folder in windows named options or preinstall if you have this open the folder and click on the setup.exe file windows will then reinstall itself at the instalation screen when it reboots pick repair windows leave file system as it is this will re install windows but leave your files as they are on the computer you will still need your serial number to re install you will only loose any updates that you installed FACTORY RE INSTALL
