If you were a child and were given a choice of a spanking or some other punishment, which would you take?

I hated spankings so I would never take a spanking if I were given a choice but some have a different view.

Spanking is no fun. As far as other punishments go my parents were quite creative. Once when I was 12 or 13 they caught me smoking, and as a punishment they made me sit in a small closet with a pack of cigarettes. I wasn't to come out till I smoked everyone. After cigarette number 4 I never wanted to smoke again.

My parents are ex army and I was always given just that a choice of punishment my father would storm into the room and say the same thing every time .... I'm am angry at you for >>what ever I had done wrong and Its best if you go to your room and decide weather you deserve a smack or grounding If I said a smack I knew it would be my choice and it would be over Quick Let me stress that we were never smacked with anything other than my fathers hand and I to this day don't think he put all his weight behind our punishment the fact that he had the kids choose their fate I think was a way for him to calm down and collect him self so as to be in full control. I took a lot of spankings over being grounded so as not to miss playing Saturday football games but I try not to spank my kids i find that just telling them that I don't like them at the moment although I will always love them works just as well

I would have choice the spanking. I was a tough kid. I thought well a spanking is the fastest way to get this over with so spank me. So I was spanked and send on my way to play, that also taught me it was okay to hit others and it took awhile to get me out of that habit has a kid.

So now seeing both ways i think other punishments is more effective. Taking toys, time out, etc

As a child, I'd think a spanking was the worst thing possible,

As a teen, it sure ain't any fun but it is quick, over with, and as long as I get reassured that my folks do still love me; sure better than being grounded for several days, the bad feelings, etc. that go with that!!

Some ridicule the idea of being a teen and getting whacked. Well, if you get the choice, you choose which you prefer. As long as I've done something "stupid", getting whacked does sort of jump-start the brain as it were; and if it's that I've been pushing the limits (like many teens do), a whacking clearly reminds me of who is the boss and that I am not.

I was a good kid. I only got 1 spanking in my whole life. My cousin and I sprayed my dad's shaving cream all over the bathroom. On the walls, mirror, door, even on the toilet, so my dad spanked me. I was probably around 8. My mom could yell at me all day and I wouldn't listen to her. But when my dad even looked at me like he was upset I would start crying. I hated to think that I was going to disappoint him. I don't spank my own kids. It doesn't work for me. Time out has worked a lot better.

I was spanked my whole childhood. Even beat a few times. Never was I given the cholce because my father did not believe children had the right to any opinion and the choice was that of an adult.
I am a mother of 4 kids now and choose other means of disciplined. I also don't give my children a choice of their discipline, but make it appropriate to what the child's actions were to get them in trouble to begin with.
There aren't many lessons learned with a spaking orther than people bigger than you sure can hit hard.

It depends. If the choice was being grounded for a week I would rather take the spanking and get it over with.

I would never have chosen a spanking over another type of punishment. For this reason I think it is a pretty good punishment with my own kids.

I was never hit as a child, was grounded a few times but as a teenager. I just new as a child to be respectful to other adults. I new it was nasty to pick on other children and new not to hit. I believe if your child has hit another how on earth is hitting them back showing them hitting is wrong??? Hitting children is being bullying as they are smaller. If you did something wrong would you like ur friends/husband/wife to show you it was wrong by hitting you? Didnt think so! You wouldnt want to be spanked by someone you love as an adult so why should ur child be spanked by you.

I would take the spanking- not BEATING, but spanking. Only because once the spanking is over- it was over. If you get punished, usually it is drawn out.

my kids now? well they would take a punishment ANY day..
