I can't fall asleep because I can't shut my mind off. There's just so many cool things to think about, I just don't doze off.
Now I can. Here's what helped me.
Chuck Smith. He's a pastor with a real deep voice. I put in a cassette tape of Chuck Smith and within 5 minutes I'm sawing logs.
Harry Potter. I put in any of the Harry Potter movies at a volume just barely loud enough to hear. It distracts me from my thoughts and I fall asleep.
I still wake up every night at 2 am and can't go back to sleep even with the tape/movie, but at least I'm getting more sleep than I used to.

I didn't fall asleep until four am last night... and I got in bed at 11:30. :(
and I had my baby shower today, so I needed to be rested for that... but, thats because I am pregnant... sleeping is very hard when your pregnant.
I got out of bed two times to stretch my legs. Then at 2:30, I went and drunk some milk... that didn't help. At 3 am, I turned on the tv... 3:30 I turned off the tv and took some tylenol and finally passed out at 4.

meditate your way into a deep sleep. this is how: lay down, ready to fall asleep. Tighten every muscle in your body including your toes, butt, hands, thighs ect... then slowly starting with your toes working to your top of your body, release all your muscle and relax them. after that you should be really relaxed. Then if your not asleep by then take a deep breath in through your nose, pushing out your tummy holding that breath for 5 seconds. then very slowly let the air escape through your mouth. Staying up all night is caused by anxiety. If you find it so hard to fall asleep that its interfering with your life daily talk to your doctor about anxiety pills. They can help :)

Absolutely do not take sleeping pills. Reduce any caffeine intake from colas, tea, coffee, or chocolate. Stop taking medications containing pseudoephedrine (Sudafed) or any other stimulant. Also do not nap during the day. Good luck!
