I’m 25 years old. I drink almost once a week (although sometimes twice a month) on Friday or Saturday evenings with friends. I usually have about 6-8 beers on one occasion. Do you think this is too much drinking? The only reason I ask is because I realize alcohol can take a toll on ones health. At the same time I don’t want to abstain from drinking altogether.

After 1-2 beers a night, you have reached your limit.
Drink 6-8 beers, have an automobile accident, get a blood alcohol test, and literally - your life of driving a car is OVER.
You will loose your license.
You will pay incredibly big fines.
Your insurance company will cancel your automobile insurance.
The other driver and the other insurance company can sue you.
And most of the time, they will win. Even if it their fault.
Age 25 is awfully young to loose all these things.

Drive again with NO license, especially after another 6-8 beers, and you go to jail for a long time.

I had a co-worker of 30 years killed by a 23 year-old-woman who had 4 beers after she left work. She ran a red light. Turned his company vehicle on it's side. He was crushed. Driving to work.

She lost her license, forever. And forever is a loonnnnggg time.
Her insurance was cancelled. Forever.
His wife sued her and her insurance company. Any job she gets for the rest of her life, 1/2 (50%) of her paycheck will go toward the lawsuit.
And the best reason for "having 4 beers after work?" She went to jail without parole for 15 years. I was at the courtroom when they read the sentence. Ther were over 67 co-workers with me when they brought her in. She almost dropped to the floor when she saw all of us, arms crossed, furious with her. She looked back and tearfully said "I'm sorry" to all of us.

PS Her two friends who also drank "a few beers" with her, had the accident with her, never talked to her again, and did not even show up at the courtroom when they sentenced her and took her away. Only her parents were present.

Drinking socially is one thing, but if you are drinking A LOT then there is a problem. The amount that you drink - you said about 2 days a week with an excess of 6-8 drinks, I think would be considered enough to cause you a health risk if you continued to do it. A sure way to tell how it is affecting your health would be to talk to your doctor about it.

The point that you are asking says plenty. You are growing up now and its time to be more responsible with your body and your health, among many other reasons . 6-8 beers is a lot. Maybe its time to slow down a bit. Try stronger drinks like scotch or bourbon. These aren't usually drank as fast, so you can party with your friends without damaging your liver and pancreas.

Everyone's body is totally different. Drinking in moderation throughout the month is better than binge drinking (drinking too much in one night). Im now pregnant so no alcohol for me, but before i was preggie i drank a glass of red wine every night with my dinner. It is good for your health and reduces the chances of heart disease.

But no, i dont see anything wrong with the way you are drinking. You seem to be quite responsible. I still have friends who go out and get themselves rotten EVERY wkend. I just let them be to their own devices.....u have to learn to drink to enjoy it, not drink to get drunk.

You seem to be doing pretty good. Once you realize that you are drinking more days a week, then you should stop and question if you are drinking too much.

it depends on the persons alcohol metabolism. if alcoholics run in your family you may have a drinking problem but don't know it yet. if you don't get drunk or mean , i don't see any thing wrong on how much you drink and how often just be careful and dont over do it a lot . you may have a problem then.
