If this in an AKC female, you might have a hard time registering the litter until he gets what he wants. If someone pays me to use one of my boys for stud, I sign litter papers at the time of breeding. That is what is supposed to be done. If you did not know this guy well, you really should of had a written breeding contract. He should of made up a contract and you could of told him what you liked or disliked about it. In my opinion, normally the stud owner gets pick pup from the litter if no stud fee was paid. I would rarely want this unless the pedigree of the girl was something that I wanted to keep back in my kennel. I made a deal with someone to pay me payments for stud fee. The litter was born and he had not finished paying. I just told him, no money paid for the rest of the stud fee and I was not signing the litter application for him. So if you do not give him the pups, you might get stuck with a litter that can not be registered. Next time you think about using a stud, make sure that a contract is written up or pay stud fee out. This can save you a lot of problems.

If that is the agreed fee for stud service then yes it's fair. Stud service agreements need to be figured out in detail BEFORE a breeding takes place NOT after. It also should ALWAYS be in writing!!
Breeding should never be undertaken when someone doesn't know all that is involved and the responsabilities of the female owner and the stud owner.

I don't think it's fair. Usually when you breed you pay a fee for the stud to impregnate the dog and thats it. A relative of mine breeds maltese puppies and she pays the stud about 700 dollars and she does what she wants with the puppies.
I think you should tell him that depending on the litter he will get 1 female only.

it depends. first, are you dogs AKC or equivalent? will they be "worth" something? i guess since you found a stud that they are. second, did you PAY for the stud services? if you did not, usually there is some sort of agreement or contract about the method or reimbursement. my golden retriever had a contract with a organization that raises and trains guide dogs. we paid no stud fee, but when the puppies were born they were guaranteed one (their choice) and additional one (our choice) if she had over 4. she had 8 puppies and so we were left with 6 to sell (we kept 2, big mistake). i think that it is pretty outrageous for them to want two if your dog will not have more than 4 pups. If there was a stud fee paid, tell them that they can pay your asking price for each pup... and that's THAT!

It is usually a set dollar (about the price of a pup) amount or 2nd pick pup. I have never heard of 2 puppies for a stud fee.

Your agreement should have been written up in a contract before the breeding took place. Should have known more about breeding before you did it.

What was your agreement before she got that way???? If you agreed that he could have two. Then you need to stick to it. If not, tell the person NO! and stick to it. He maybe is being a little unreasonable. You should always pay cash or check for your female stud service. I would never agree to a puppy. So good luck . God Bless.

No way I don't think thats fair at all. Did you have some sort of aggrement when you bred the dogs? Usually you have to pay for the stud, but I'm not sure. Its definately not fair for you to have to give him two of your puppies.

no this is not fair but there should have been an agreement before studding took place usually there is a set stud fee or pick of the litter (one dog)

Depends, what did the breeding contact that you two should have written up and signed say?

Normally, with show dogs, it's a $$$ stud fee and/or a pick of a litter (a pick is one).
