I was wondering if anyone else has noticed a huge difference between the sesame street of the 70's and 80's to now? Does anyone else think it's not even educational anymore?

I want to elaborate that my child (who is 1) is only allowed to watch tv in the morning when he gets up with his father. We do go outside and play, read books, etc. I was just shocked to see how dumbed down sesame street has become. We watch Arthur and Curious George now instead. I just wanted to see if anyone else felt the same way

Elmo drives me crazy. He talks like a baby, which is what you're NOT supposed to do to children, and although what he teaches is fairly interesting, you can't understand a word he says. Turn off the tv and introduce your kids to books. They are far more entertaining and educational.

I grew up in the 80s with sesame street. Back then it was more innocent and focused on education as you say. You do have to keep in mind that things have changed.
Think about what they do show. They sing, teach sharing and caring, numbers and letters, spanish among other things. Also, think of the alternatives on TV. Every turn on nickelodeon, disney or cartoon network... a bunch of mindless shows. At least kids can learn SOMETHING from sesame street.
Then again, you get what you give. I watch Sesame St. with my daughter... that why I can point out things to her and make it even more educational.

I love sesame street. Elmo is very entertaining and educational. I didn't watch it in the 70's or 80's so I wouldn't know if it is different now.

Television along with traditional media tends to change with the times and the differing needs of society at times. It is still educational but also it broadened its horizons to include socialization as a part of it to prepare children for preschool and kindergarten. The neighborhood society has become a bit inclusive even adding a disabled child into its regular cast.

Love it then as a kid and love it now with my kids. I think it is as educational if not more so than it was in the 79/80's. It includes a lot more diversity than it did before.

It still teaches kids their numbers and ABCs, but it is still better to turn off the TV and teach them yourself. Sesame Street is nowhere near as bad as Sponge Bob or Teletubbies.

hey anything is better than spongebob.
i used to like it but when i thought about it in an educational way for if we have a child i dont recommend a child watching them hit each other on the head with hammers.
it is always better to teach a child yourself than a tv
