That is because the swat team of this country are the modern day gestapo, they dont care if they frighten your familly and change the way your neighbors look at you. They are ready to pull that trigger too, just in case you think they are robbers kicking your door in and try to protect yourself. Mos swat members would love the chance to use their weapons, I saw a video of a man holding his son while a swat member was pointing his MP5 at them yelling give me the Fing kid, while the boy was terrified. They do not have a mentality too far off from a criminals. uck them.

Unless you live in a bunker or a bank vault, explosives are typically not used to make forced entry. Your door can be forced open with a weighted ram or a sledge hammer. Due to the risk of fire (imagine what could happen if you blew open a door and there was a meth lab set up on the other side of it), and injury explosives are too dangerous, paticularly when you don't know what's immediately on the other side of that door. I've seen entry teams rip burglar resistant doors / windows (burglar bars) off of houses with APCs or trucks, but have never seen them use explosives.
SWAT does not deploy to serve a warrant unless it's "high risk". In other words, there is a reason to believe that there will be weapons or violent resistance involved in serving the warrant. Some types of warrants are always considered high risk, like narcotics etc..., otherwise a warrant squad serves them.
As for the hour and the use of flash bangs, it 's because that is when people are most likely to be home and asleep, therefore making the element of surprise and disorientation work in your favor.

the question is did they have the right house?

I'm not sure I trust a middle class resident who knows what flashbangs are, unless you're a teenage boy who likes counterstrike.

touche :)

If they didn't have the right house...you have a lawsuit.
I know a guy who had that happen and they arrested him for being a child molester...it was mistaken identity he had the same name and his social security number was only one digit different.

This is a very, very rare occurrence and I am glad that they are out their protecting me and my family. If they blasted into my home they would realize very quickly they made a mistake and I would not be angry.

We all have a job to do and most people do the best they can.

I doubt it was a mistake. You, or someone in your home has probably made someone in the Department angry by your actions or words. Perhaps someone gave your name & address when they were interrogated for illegal activity. Did they find anything illegal in your home? I hope not. I doubt your law suit will win you any points with the "team"!
