I don't like that first answer someone gave you only because it was so limited. Church is an excellent place to meet people, and a wonderful place to start, but this is America for pete's sake. There are a kabillion places to meet people without involving alcohol. Do you like the arts? Museums, art shows, dance performances. How about dancing lessons, sports events, friends' parties, the laundromat, a Barnes and Nobles (or other bookstore), the gym....goodness, there are a lot of places to look!
