I hope this helps you make it thru the day
A Dog's Prayer
by Beth Norman Harris
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of mine.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it is cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. Though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshipper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great Master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest -- and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.

I'm so sorry for you. I've been through this a few time and it is one of the hardest things you'll have to do. It will take time to get over. Just remember all the good years you gave him and he gave you. In time you will most likely have another dog and you will love him just as much but never the same. My first dog had to be put to sleep in 1982. She was my best friend too and I still remember every little thing about her. You won't forget but you will get over the sadness eventually. And know that Monday your friend will not suffer, he will simply go to sleep. Bless you.

First I am so sorry that you are losing your best friend. You will be going thru a long period of mourning just as if it was a human loved one that passed. You will grieve for a long time, but as the days pass, the pain will not feel as bad. I have owned pets for over 40 years and have lost many during that time and I still find myself crying sometimes over the loss of one of those pets that passed from this earth years ago. Finding a new friend(dog) to love one day when you are ready will help heal your heart. You will know when the time is right.

at first it will seem like the whole world has come crashing down on you. Just think of the fun times and say to yourself it's had a nice life. The memory will never go and unfortunately it will take years to stop wishing it was there with you o you r lap. But you willadjust to the situation. Don't worry the same thing happened to me. Only my animals were my bros and sis's. so i lost my siblings. It hurts and will for a while. But you'll be okay. Just don't be afraid to talk about it.

Well, think over why they are and then maybe you'll understand more. If this doesn't work well..... do you have any brothers or sisters? If so then make friends with them. Just prey every night that your dog is alright. Focus on other things than dogs. Sorry about the sad news!

Only time will heal. I'm sorry for your loss. When we lost our first Malinois (put down due to epilepsy) it took us a few days just to stop crying, and over a week to even start about getting another.
Even our collie was depressed to the point of not eating (he's the main reason why we got another Malinois girl).

Grief is terrible. Everyone has their own way to deal with it, there is no advise I can really give because you will experience it in your own way.
What I can tell you is I lost one of my beloved dogs a year ago.
I buried her out the front yard, near where I do my gardening, I planted a small shrub above her. When I am feeling sad about her death I go out and touch a leaf on the shrub, it gives me comfort, I feel part of her essence within the leaves.
Out of something sad, something beautiful has grown.

It will take time to get over his death. If you can be there when they do it and comfort him. Try to think of the good times you had with him. It will be hard but you will get over it eventually.

the same way you do when any loved one dies. Let yourself cry when you feel like it. Dont hold your feelings inside. Time lessens the pain. It is painful but keep loving thoughts of your dog in your heart!! Sorry for your loss. I know its tough..... you will make it through it.
