i walk fast (not quite jog) on a teadmill about 30 minutes a day in the morning, burning about 140 calories and 20-30 grams of fat, and i'm eating grape nuts twice a day as well as low fat yogurt. i hardly eat any fat all day. i'm drinking a lot of water, but i don't seem to be losing much weight. is it that i'm consuming more calories than i'm losing? and if so how can i lose the excess ones? i don't want to gain muscle, i just want to lose weight.

Just eat smaller portions of everything. Like instead of a normal lunch have only half of it or three quarters. Same with dinner.
Don't drink any soft drinks and leave all sugary things, cookies, cakes, sweetened yogurt, ice cream away. Just for a few weeks.
And then - don't panic about fat. I think the US is an overweight nation because everything is fat free. Fat is essential in food to make you feel full and to not want to eat any more. In Europe people have no inhibitions to indulge in cream, butter and fatty stuff but they many nations have only a small overweight population. However - their portions are much smaller.

You can't lose weight because you don't have any to lose. You're already very thin for your height and you really shouldn't try to lose anymore. It you want to get toned, (not muscular, just defined), try doing exercises with small weights in 3 sets of 12 intervals. The more you do sculpts you, if you wanted to gain muscle you would do less numbers, but with heavier weights. If you do 50 steady crunches it will help you get a flat stomach. If you do squats or wall sits it will strengthen you legs and butt without adding bulk.

Try eating a balanced diet, which includes somes fats, because it sounds like you are on a starvation diet and your body's re-action will be to store any calories it can and when you stop dieting it will continue to store calories in the form of fat to build up a reserve for the next famine(crash diet)
If you don't want to gain muscle your exercise propgram should include aerobics and yoga
Might be an idea to talk to an expert like a skinny doctor( a fat doctor won't do as he isn't practising good health)

most weight is fluids , and it may take you longer to lose or see any improvement because of your body metabolism. don't give up; walking swimming or just walking in the water , at a beach or pool does a lot also; eat vegetables and fruits they contain vitamins and minerals your body will be losing as the weight comes off. take a good vitamin so you don't lose all the minerals in your body, and all the vitamins you need anyway. it takes time be patient but never get discouraged don't give up you are doing fine.

Lose the treadmill, eat salad, and check your Nutrition Facts for Partially Hydrogenated Oils. Those are bad for you...they cause breast cancer, so if your foods have that...don't eat them. Don't eat foods with a lot of partially hydrogenated oils, carbs, high sodium& calories, or sugary foods.

I would suggest going to www.mypyramid.gov where you can create a healthy eating plan simply but entering your age, gender, and activity level. You might not be getting enough fiber into your diet. You need about 25 grams daily and it is very helpful with weight loss.

Now is a good time in your life to begin good eating habits so just eat less but the same food.
Wait until you are 19 before you worry about a diet. Work out and eat healthy foods now and remember everything in moderation.

5"1 and 114 pounds is not an unhealthy weight. How on earth do you know that you are burning "20-30 grams of fat", lol, from walking? You are burning calories, but you cannot determine how many grams of fat you are burning.
