I clean my whole house twice a week and I don't leave any food out. I don't know where they all came from or where they keep coming from.

if you live in a house, go in the basement. down there, locate the pipe that goes to the waste tank outside, it comes from your toilets, but may not be anywhere near where they are.

you'll notice that it's this pipe that goes into a hole in the ground, and usually there is a lot of water there, in the hole, but not high enough to leak out onto your floor.

gnats, like many other small flying insects, may lay their eggs in water. so just pour a gallon of bleach in that water.

also, check the windows down there, not just that they are closed, but also that any moulding is clean and undamaged. it's a possible food source.

and see that there isn't any old cardboard. usually the tape the cardboard has on it contains a glue that insects LOVE.

Do you have plants , birds or any type of seed? If so the plants could have a moisture problem and if they are in water you may have to change it and clean up the plant., if it's seeds freeze them. Also check around any openings to your house like windows or doors. Is there something there outside that is causing the gnats. Or do you have a light next to an open screened window, around here they come in at night through the screens.

If you have house plant they come from soil. The soil may have eggs that are hatching.

If you have fruits that are not covered it attracts or the eggs may be hatching that are on the fruits surface.

They may be entering when you open and close the door.

They are small and can come from door screens and window screens. In my house they were entering from heating system make up air opening, I installed a filter on it.

Vinegar and Baking Soda in all of your drains. Make sure they're not in any of your houseplants if you have any. You can always vacuum them up with an attachment if there are too many of them to handle. I had moths take over a 25 lb. bag of bird seed and they got all in my house. I was vacuuming them off the ceiling and everywhere. Good Luck!

Do you live in an apartment? Some nats come in from the disposal. You can try some bleach down the drain if you notice them there. Usually fruits will attract them. They are very annoying though.
