Well, in today's society, it really doesn't matter. Some guys think that the girl is being too "forward" if she asks him out and some guys like it. Some girls think that the guy should ask them out, and some girls would rather just ask him themselves. It depends on the people.
When I started dating my boyfriend, it was more of a mutual decision. We both knew that we were crushing on each other, and so we started dating. I can't remember who suggested it first, though.

Doesn't matter.. just know that if you are a girl, and you act a little more agressive.. you will get more guys. keep in mind that not all good guys have the confidence to hit on girls.

You both could be waiting for the other to make the first move. Take a chance. You have a 50% chance of things working out or you can sit there and wonder what if.

I think that it works either way. Sometimes I really enjoy a girl to let me know that she is interested, and sometimes it is nice to take the initiative and show her that you like her. It all depends on the situation and how one feels about it.

there is a school of thought that the girl (even in the most sublte of way) is always the one who does the work....

It depends on how the girl was raised. Some girls are taught that it's never kosher to chase a boy so they would never approach someone they liked.

Yeah. That's the way it used to be.

Now with girls doing everything guys do, and all are being called just plain "guys", it's now all lost.

Better to just sit back and let the girls do it all.

I think in the past, in culture, men are often the "woo"-ers. The other way around would make things easier though.
