he was fine in the house i got him from, but now that he's in mine, he won't poo in the litter box and prefers peeing on the laundry room floor. the box is clean so i can't figure it out.

When I brought home my last two kittens, they had been box trained. But I had to retrain them. You may have to close your cat in the room with his box, until he uses it consistently.

Good luck!

Your cat is probably stressed from the change. One year is a long time to a cat; he will have to adjust. When he poops out of the box what you need to do is put the poo in the liter box so he can see that's where it is and that's what it's used for. Even though a litter box is a litter box, it could be different, plus the change in environment is probably just getting the better of him. Let him explore the house on his own too, don't crowd him until you can tell he's gotten used to things and is successful with the new litter box too.

First if you don't want him to go where he is going now you must buy a spray at your local pet store to- stop the cat from repeating this habit. Continue to put the cat in the litter box and take his paw and scratch with it. this is the motion they use when they are finished and go to bury their waste.
Then put the cat in the box after it eats, do this for a few days. they are really easy to trai . they are very smart and clean.

you should put the same kind of cat litter that it used to have, if not just put him in the box until he either pis or poos.

put the litterbox in the laundry room for awhile so he can get used to it. That's apparently where the last owner had theres. Cat's are easy to train, b/c they pretty much train themselves.

There's a certain spray that you can get at the vet's office to spray in the litterbox, that sends out a sent and supposed to attract them. Also, here's a site for you to check out. Hope this helps.
