In your Internet Explorer browser delete your temporary files and cookies: Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/ "Delete Cookies" and "Delete Files". Then word search your machine for "temp" files and "cookies" and "bookmarks".
Google methods to remove toolbars that might be messing you up.
Else, download some free programs to do the clean up.

The best way is to reinstall operating system (new one with formatting C partition, not update), then install good antivirus(and update it everyday) and firewall, use secure web browser and mail client.
You can also install antivirus or ad-remover to infected machine, but there is chance, if your antivirus isn't updated, for malicious code to block it or simply antivirus don't recognize virus. Same is for ads...
