In some Eastern religions, it's considered to be a symbol of enlightenment. It's often associated with visions, clairvoyance, precognition, and out-of-body experiences.
Some believe that the pineal gland is the physical representation of the third eye, because of its location and the fact a chemical produced by the gland, DMT, is a chemical precursor to dreams, meditation, near-death experiences, visions, and other poorly-understood forms of awareness.

The third eye is a power spot in the forehead. The minds eye,
like we sometimes see pictures in our mind.
Jesus said , "When the "eye" is single. The body is full of
light." It also says that at the Rapture, "Every "eye" will see
Him." That will be like in a vision.
There is a gland called the pineal gland that is also in the
forehead. Doctors don't know what it's for. Psychics say it
works with the spiritual third eye.
That is why there is this crackdown on smoking I think. Psychics
say smoking clogs the pineal gland. And both good and bad
forces want this eye working. So they can use it to their
advantage. To frighten us, or to comfort us.

The term refers to a common spiritual focus point in many magical and spiritual traditions, also known as the 6th chakra or the inner eye.
It is the place within the mind where visions can be focused, and is placed roughly in the lower center of the forehead. Hence the name.

In the physical world, the third eye is more often referred to as the mind's eye.
The way it works is that the eye can "see into the future" by using input from your visual eyes to make predictions of events and see them in your mind- seeing things in much the the same way that you dream.
For example, if someone holds a glass pitcher, then lets go, you can perfectly imagine what it would look like- you probably are visualizing images right now.

The third eye is the eye of the mind to foresee the future, for example one day I was at my home on the my computer and the pool man came to maintain the pool, and I saw a hallucination of a snake, and when I went outside to the pool, I saw a small garden snake. One time I was sitting at my office at work and I was thinking of this friendly religious customer, and he came, though I never thought of him in any of my day dreams before that day. I stopped believing in God at one point in my life, but after these and many other events in my life, I can never stop having faith that God does exist and has many ways of communicating to many individuals, most likely altruistically righteous individuals.

Deals with the chakra point.
It is a spiritual thing, a Buddhist thing.
Many people believe that it is the way to see the other side, that which is not tangible but more ethereal.

It is the sixth chakrah, its element is light, and its color is indigo. It is second in power only to the crown chakrah and controls our thoughts. It is also supposed to be a point that regulates psychic abilities. It is used extensively in meditation, and can be found between the eyes and a bit up. Dominance of this chakrah is found in the indigo children, hence the name.
