Those signs sure seem ambiguous, don't they? I agree that some workers get careless and just step into a car... but you still should be driving slowly and carefully anyway. Odds are, even if the construction worker was at fault, you're still going to have to pay. The government makes the laws they want... we don't really get much of a say... I'm sure the insurance companies pressured them into their current law since more cautious drivers means less insurance claims and therefore greater profits for the insurance companies.

try walking in their shoes especially along 75, 94, 96, 696 or even worse - the Lodge -- you wouldn't take this so loosely. recall the death a couple years back. construction workers walk next to the most dangerous areas - michigan speed, oops, freeways. none of them would purposly walk in front of a vehicle.

No, they are talking about maximum penalties. A nudge will only get you some fines, but going back would probably get you charged for more serious crimes, and knowing the Americans,they'd most likely try to kill you. Bloody hypocrites!
