I had a female and a male Yorkie. Both are very lovable. They let you know if someone is approaching your house. It's wise to have them spayed if you aren't going to breed them, because they can get cancer if you don't. Brush a Yorkie daily. Put a "topknot" in their hair in the front of the head to keep the hair out of their eyes. However, mine didn't like them in, and were always pulling them out. Have it checked by a vet periodically and get its shots regularly. You can get some good flea med from the vet that you put a few drops of the top of their back, close to their head. They like Milk Bones. Never give a dog a real bone, because the bone can splinter, and cause alot of problems for the dog. Check with you vet as to what is best to feed them. Never leave a dog in a car when it is hot and closed up, because they could die. Yorkies have a long life span. Enjoy your Yorkie, they are adorable.

i have a Yorkie. they are full of spunk
of, first of all, i do not know who is selling u an 8 week dog. puppies at 8 weeks still need to be with their mamma and suckle her breast and learn to be dogs from her. anyway besides that, yorkies are
fun
loving
also, females are more expensive then males. i bought my male for $1800 but females are $2000 and up, depending where u get them. all yourkies look like females though because of their long hair, so i think females r more popular. but i have a male and i still put his hair in a ponnytail and everyone thinks he's a girl. i just correct them and then i tell them he's metrosexual...cause he totally is.
can be stubborn
very smart
very ahrd to pottytrian
very lowd - they bark a lot
don't shed at all
can be lap dogs but not all the time
they tend to choose favorites
yorkie owners rule!!!
i'm super glad you're getting one
make sure to spay/neuter him/her and get her her tags and her registration.

yorkies are sweet pups. my wife has a yorkie that she's had for the past 3 years. they don't shed--which is super. they are VERY affectionate and VERY intelligent! they are a great animal to have as a pet.
i'd go to a pet store, or amazon and get a book on yorkies. maybe a dummies book. i swear by the dummies books. i've got a whole library of them. cool---i just looked on amazon.com and they have a book called Yorkshire Terriers for Dummies. you can get a new one for 11 bucks or a used one for 5, I'd definitely invest in the book!
something you may want to know before hand is that all terriers are headstrong! they take the meaning of the word "independent" to all new levels! once your yorkie gets something in his or her head they're NOT going to let go of it. so remember this before you start playing ball right before their bedtime!
they pick favorites. my wife's yorkie, scooter, tolerates me--but just adores my wife. there's NO question about whose pup he is!
i would highly recommend spaying a female or neutering a male pup. you don't want the mess of a female in heat or the unpleasant business of an inside male marking everything. neutering a male takes care of most of that.
last, but NOT least---i would HIGHLY recommend crate training your pup. its the only way to have an inside dog. basically what crate training is is that your pup will have a pretty fixed schedule of when he's out, and when he's in his crate. to the novice, it sounds cruel---but its about the only way to keep and inside dog happy. i'd get some books on crate training as well.
crate training will also simplify housebreaking your dog.
you'll love your yorkie. cuddle it and spoil it to death and enjoy it!

Yorkies are amazing dogs! They are loyal to their owners and very affectionate. Please don't go and get a dog without being prepared. Read up on them, talk to people who have dogs. It is hard work and very time consuming training a puppy, but can be very rewarding!

Yeah, HEARTLESS... read whole questions before answering them!
I hope your lack of attention to detail is not indicative of the attention you will pay to the puppy. If you're both in, who is going to take care of the pup when you're both gone?

Get a male..........you don't have to worry about getting him fixed if you don't want to. But if you choose to get a female, have her fixed. Females are terrible and messy when they go into heat.

It's GREAT that you are getting a puppy and you want to learn all you can about it!
Start by learning how to spell T-E-R-R-I-E-R.
