I want to purchase a Sony sa-wx700 powered subwoofer, but I noticed that in the owners manual it said that it was pushing power through 3ohms and my receiver is 8ohms. Now my question would be, is it the built-in amp that is pushing (outputting) 3ohms or is it the input accepts 3ohms? And would it work with my 8ohm receiver?

Since your receiver's amplifier is not being used to drive the subwoofer, there are no problems hooking the powered subwoofer to the receiver. The Sony powered subwoofer (subwoofer and on-board amplifier) is designed to work together on its own and will not affect the receiver. Just connect it to your receiver as is outlined in your owner's manual -and voila!

Important Note: DO NOT EVER run an 8 Ohm receiver or amplifier to DRIVE (i.e. POWER) a 3-Ohm subwoofer (or any other speaker system that is rated at 3 Ohms)! or otherwise you may fatally damage your receiver or amplifier.

The 3ohms has nothing to do with the input to your powered sub, which is an amplifier, not a speaker. You will have no problem using the speaker with your system.

It means that it accepts 3 ohms. It will work with 8ohms receiver but will not give the good result

everything will work together. all you will be doing is running a audio signal from your reciever to the subwoofer. the two amps will be working seperately. its like hooking up a dvd player to your reciever.
