I don't have a lot to go on, other than the first few words of this song. It starts with a word that sounds like dat dat dat dat Summertime. I have searched all songs named Summertime and have not found it. I believe it was from the '60s. It is not Summertime Blues or Summertime and the living is easy. Anyone remember this particular song and/or artist?

I have played the song in my head over and over and come up with more words. It is the original 'Summertime' by Sam Cooke but the one I am looking for is a jazzed up version. I have searched all the music sites to come up with the artist who made the song rock but have had no luck. It goes 'Summertime and the living is easy'.

Mungo Jerry had a big hit in 1970 with "In the Summertime." You can hear a sample of it (or download it) from MSN Music. You can also check out the soundtrack for "Wedding Crashers." Check it out - I'm betting you that this is the song you are looking for!

OK - with that new information:

Summertime
from the American Folk Opera "Porgy and Bess"
by George Gershwin

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But till that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With daddy and mamma standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

Lots and lots of people, including Nina Simone, recorded that song, but Janis Joplin had a lot of airplay with her version.

The current version is Summertime by Fresh Prince (Will Smith). The beginning sounds exactly the way you described it... except for it was in the 90s.

Ridin round town with all the windows down
Eight track playin all your favorite sounds
The rhythm of the bongos fill the park
The street musicians tryin to get a start

Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

Stretched out on a blanket in the sand
Kids of all ages diggin Disneyland
Rappin on the C.B. radio in your van
We'll give a big "10-4" to the truckin man

Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

Young boys playin stick ball in the street
Fire hydrants help to beat the heat
Old man feeding pigeons in the square
Nighttime finds young lovers walking there

Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year

In Atlantic City or out in Malibu
Or any where between, I'm telling you
When you feel those balmy breezes on your face
Summer time is the best time any place

Cause it's summer
Summer time is here
Yes it's summer
My time of year
Yes it's summer
My time of year
