You may have him in the wrong school. If a child can't be in the top 25% of his class, it is extremely difficult for the child to build self esteem. Take him at his word that it is too difficult.......children at that age are telling the truth. As a retired teacher and mother of three adult kids, it can be overwhelming to a child if he can't feel success.......my best wishes and advice...hope it helps.....badgering him by parents and teachers will never accomplish what you need from him.

If your child has an assigned paraprofessional working with him on a consistent basis then, it is not a slight learning disability. It is sever enough for the educational system to spend thousand of dollars on him. The one on one thing seems like it is a great idea but, it can be very harmful for the child. It enables him to rely on someone else to help him stay focused and get his work done. He is singled out and will learn skills that make him believe he needs someone with him at all times.
You have to have a regimented sturctured system of rewards and punishments, constant communication with teacher, many visits to the school, doctor consultations, etc. to ensure success in school. Keep trying until you find a system that works for you.
Go to your child's school and ask to sit down with their child study team for help. It is free of charge and very helpful.

before each thing to Linda B little ones want PreK, to be in a position to shop up with all they might want to understand with the help of the authentic of kindergarten. I artwork in my daughter's type and also you may want to honestly tell who has had it and who has no longer, those who have not are thoroughly beaten. And basically searching a sparkling job, is the stupidest ingredient I have heard, possibilities are severe it truly is not an determination for her. Does the faculty punish him?? My husband suggested they have already been punished at school, so shop that in ideas. And he's largely 4. i might want to objective a sturdy habit chart. even as he can placed a sticky label on 3 weeks properly worth, do no longer make it too straightforward of a objective or he wont study from it, then he receives to bypass out for ice cream or something like that. Visually they see their mark and it has continuously worked very well with my little ones.

Is there any way you can observe at school without him knowing? Sometimes the one on one attention children receive in schools is not always positive. Also talk to the school counselor about a possible behavior contract. Set goals, simple ones at first, then as he achieves his goals make it a little harder the next time, and so on and so on.

Look into a tutor. My daugher is the same way...she won't focus. If the teacher is working directly with her then she will but if she doesn't my daugher is off in la la land.
My mom says karate will do it because they learn self discipline. But I don't know if that will work.
talk to the school councilers and his teachers and you might just have to work with him yourself.
Get him on a scheduel. LIke come home and have a short snack break and then homework. Don't do anything else before hoemwork.

trust HIM not you and the school's expectatoins. why would a child refuse to do something he was good at? sometimes it's laziness, but if you are saying he has a learning disability then perhaps he is having a hard time. it's too bad you arent able to homeschool him. then you can teach him at HIS pace.

My sister is 8 and she does the EXACT same thing. We know shes not dumb but she just refuses to study and do the work. What my parents did was reward her with things for good grades. Like if she gets a good grade on a test or report card they take her to do something that she likes and dosent normally like to do. Spelling is her biggest problem and my mom just makes a game out of it with her....that usually works.

Perhaps he's really smart and it's hard to concentrate because he's bored. Could you talk to his teacher about different learning styles. Maybe she could teach him the same work, but using a different learning technique. Hope this helps.

Sounds very similar to my son. Have a look at www.fedup.com.au it's all about how preservatives, artificial colours and flavours effect childrens behaviour and learning. Don't opt for ADHD drugs.

ask your kid to stay after school for additional help from his teachers. that way he will get some one-on-one help. also help your child in doing their home work, but don't give him the answers. also make their home work into a game to help them learn.
