Check my profile and you will find that I have suffered from a disease for many years. The disease features chronic pain, depression, and insomnia so I know first hand how difficult getting to sleep and waking up can be.
You should try a different activity than sleeping when you get mad, because you are bottling it all up. If you continue to do that then someday you will explode over something little. Find an activity where you can work through the anger. Exercise is the best, and that can be just walking.
The important thing is to build a sleep schedule and stay with it. When you over sleep or stay awake too long then you run the risk of throwing your entire sleep schedule off. You can't store up sleep; you can only have a sleep deficit. This will make you sluggish and depressed. So you are not helping yourself by sleeping through your anger. In the long run it will only increase your need for sleep.
I found that I had to stay with the exact same sleep schedule to get any good sleep. I can easily stay up until 5:00 a.m. but I will be a wreck the next day, and I will start sleeping during the days and not at night.

I do have some tips: possible Medications, and good sleep hygiene.
When you go to sleep make sure you do it in a dark room, a room that should only be used for sleeping, pull the TV out. Make sure it is a relaxing place to sleep as well. Hold off on any caffeine at least 6 hours before bed, and the exercise as well. One-half hour before you go to bed dim the lights a little, this will increase the body’s natural production of a sleep hormone called Melatoin. A glass of warm milk will do the same. When you go to bed compose yourself for sleep, relax and push out all thoughts of the day. If you cannot do this then think of something else, something that you like, even a sexual fantasy. If you don’t fall asleep in 20 minutes then get out of bed. Then do something quiet, like watch the TV on low volume or read, but don’t do this in the bedroom. After 20 minutes try to go back to sleep again. If it still doesn’t work then get up and do something quiet, and try it again in 20 minutes.
I run a fan all night in my bedroom. The mind gets used to the white noise, and it covers up the noise around you. Don’t put the fan on oscillate, where it blows over you and then elsewhere, that will distract you. If it gets too cold then point the fan into a corner. I have blocked my shade with a few posters, and made sure that as little light as possible enters my room. Put your alarm clock where you cannot see it, or just turn it away. If you track time then you will only get mad at yourself for not falling asleep. You might try playing some music, use a CD, not a radio. You want a constant level of music. Try something soothing like easy listening or classical. If classical music bores you then that would be the best to use.
If all this doesn’t work then you need more help. The sleep medications that you can buy over the counter are really a sham, and won’t do you any good. You can pick up Melatoin in the drug store or any major supermarket. It is fairly cheap and comes in 1 mg to 3 mg doses. Start at 1 mg a night and work your way up to a maximum of 4 mg, after that any more is a waste.
Get on a decent sleep schedule and stick with it. Don't over sleep because that can be upsetting. If you are tired during the day then the Army Medical Corp recommends naps 20-40 minutes; enough time to go through a full sleep cycle. Thats not a sleeping problem(even though you might nod off to sleep)-its your comfort zone, and you feel secure in your bed.Perhaps it stems from your childhood--a bit like sucking your thumb.You will grow out of it as you mature more , as you will learn other ways to overcome the upsets.Try working on the things that upset you, and how not to let them upset you.Everytime you feel an upset coming on, think of all of the starving children in the world that are dying each day,and how lucky you are to be able to throw half your food in the trash can because it was too much to eat.Or think of something happy or funny.Build up a defence against the depression.

I sounds like depression, which is a medical condition (not the other kind) and I have it myself. some things that help: no sugar, no white flour, a good multi-vitamin, tons of vitamin c and a B complex vitamin --all daily. I buy them at GNC, regular exercise, enough sleep.
I also take ginko biloba daily.
I say --look into getting treatment for depression and finding out what kind you might have (from a psychiatrist because they've been to medical school.).

I had an extreme sleep problem earlier this year, and my doctor found out I was low in potassium...He prescribed potassium, and now I don't sleep quite so much...But there are many underlying problems for a person that sleeps too much, and I suggest you see a doctor...You could have hypothyroidism, also, that causes lethargy...

I had problems like you everytime I would go to bed upset I would end up falling asleep. I finally went to my doctor and he said that I was depressed and put me on an anti-depressent it worked for me. Maybe you should try it.
