ok i'm a marine & i would like to know why we can't just use a nuke on anyone or any country. I think we should send them all a message every way possible that no matter race religion color or creed if u can't get along with everyone its over. some how using nukes is socialy and moraly unexeptable but it is acceptable to let our country men carry an m16 and go to forign lands and die for the right to be free why do our ppl have to die to correct there mistakes police your own. now ur probobly gona come back with thats harsh or someone would abuse that power well precautions could be put into place for that its ok for us to go die to correct there mistakes i think that is bullshit (marine life expectancy for building incertion 0) not that i'm scared of death or don't wanna fight for my country but this all is starting to seem really pointless

I have one word for you...well actually it's an a acronym...

M.A.D.

Do you know what it stands for?

Mutually
Assured
Distruction

It means that if WE (the U.S) launch a nuclear weapon, anyone and everyone who has them or has anything close to one will launch as well. Why do you think you are better than everyone else in these other countries. How would you feel if someone dropped a nuke on your favorite city killing thousands of innocent men, women and children, toppling buildings and destroying everything you loved...just because they didn't agree with what you were doing or how you were living. Weapons of Mass Destruction are indescriminate. Soldiers with rifles, though more dangerous to the soldiers, are a smarter choice...not only to the people we oppose but to the people who are responsible for ordering the war in the first place. A guy on the end of a rifle is able to stay his trigger when he sees a child running across the street, a bomb or missile (no matter how smart) still cannot discern between threat and collateral.

Personally I don't believe the U.S. should be out there policing the world. Would it be easier to just drop the bomb on the people we are at war with and get it over quickly? Sure. We did it to the Japanese right? It ended WWII right? We killed hundreds of thousands of them instantly and forced thousands of others to suffer for months and years...but it kept the U.S. from sacrificing thousands and thousands of doughboys. The Japanese would have fought till the last man, and used every dirty little trick in the book to secure their homeland. Sounds familiar right? The same thing is happening in Iraq. The country of Iraq isn't fighting this war, it's the idealists who are keeping us there. There are a million reasons why dropping the big one on baghdad would be a BAD idea, but I'll just name one that's important to me.

Because you are a marine, as you suggest, your mind is trained to think one way, but this problem can not be solved with a nuke. First, we are a Christian Nation, and Christ would not like the idea of killing so many innocent people just to protect one nation. Also, we already have one nuke to many on our conscience.
We started this whole nuke thing and now it is spreading. We have an obligation to seriously try to deal with the nuke problem, but using a nuke short of an actual atomic attack on us would be unforgivable, trust me on this one.
Remember please that we are actually under less danger now than we where during the cold war. We were one bad decision away from a nuclear exchange with Russia in 1963.
This panic thing that is wiping up all this fear and hash words and deeds is not helpful. We need a cool mind and a steady hand at this point. I would suggest that many leaders in the Military would agree.
Fact, we are the strongest Nation in the world with the biggest nuke inventor and probably bigger than the whole world put together. We have any number of ways to deliver a nuke, but countries in the Middle East would have to reserve a seat for the nuke on United to get to us. Iran has no long range missile.
So hang in there Marine. I salute you, but remember, we are on the same side.

I know this war is totally pointless but using nukes isn't the answer either. There are tooo many consequences to using nukes. The worlds oil comes from that area and our nation would be seen as the new nazi germany committing genocide out of frustration is not what this country is about. You'll just have to keep your head down until the Dem's can get you home. Good Luck and semper fi.

The consequences of using a nuke, especially a strategic one in the 500 kiloton range would be catastrophic.

For example, one used in the middle east will wipe out 200 million people, with another 190 million deaths in nearby countries from the radioactive fallout. Their only guilt would be living near the middle east.

Carl Sagan estimated that the threshold for a nuclear winter is very low, a 100 kiloton detonation would ignite enough fires to trigger a world-wide nuclear winter (where the dust particles would be released into the air to block the sun for at least two years.).

Perhaps a tactical nuke in the lower kiloton ranges would be enough, in either case, be prepared for the UNIMAGINABLE, for this is the direction that we're headed.

Ansem7 said it all.. The effects of a nuke wouldn't just effect one country they effect everything around it.

Duque de Alba: Have you ever met anyone in the infantry? Many of them are actually very smart and had very high scores and choose to be infantry.

Remember not everyone in the Middle East is bad. Not everyone there wants to kill anyone opposing them. You can't wipe out a whole country because of a hand full of crazies.

It would be wise for you to first question why we're in conflict with other nations. It seems like you're assuming that we've had a prestine history of human rights and non-interference in other country's affairs and have not killed and destroyed to ultimately further the will of a few powerful leaders and the people who put them in power. Let's take this latest war. You and many other young men and women with bright futures are being risked to protect lies and secret agendas. It makes me sad to see young people getting killed, on both sides for questionable motives.
Second point: Even if we were victims. Nuking another country would be like cutting our own leg off. You are obviously not a parent yet. Remember my answer when you hold your child for the first time in your arms. You will not want violence in his or her world. You will not want radiation in his or her world.
I commend you for seeking answers to a question that was on your mind. Please know that the more you question your government and demand honesty, the more of a true American you are because this country was bulit from all the right stuff. Greed and the influence of people with interets that are not yours and mine, got the best of our leaders. At some point we lost our innocence. There are a lot of good books on what the US and britain have done since WW2. Read them and see why there is conflict. I promise you it's not because those people don't like our freedoms and are against democracy. It's because we take away their democratically elected governments when they don't serve us anymore. Saddam, the blood thirsty dictator that we just ousted, is the same evil dictator as the one we backed all those years. "Bin Loudmouth" is the same evil man that we financed in the early 1990's, but now he's public enemy number one. We must think more long term when we interfere in other country's affairs, because anything short of minding our own business and taking care of our own is a waste of time and money and lives.

There is a thing called Nuclear fallout.
The fact the whereever you nuke would be very deadly to live aorund for YEARS AND YEARS afterwards.

We might carry m16's * ive got a SAW..mwhaha * but the environmental damage from a few shells hitting the ground are alot less than a nuke going off.

Not to mention the loss of innocent civillian lives and all of that.

Now lets assume every country does this. So when North Korea gets its nukes up, will they nuke us for stopping food aid for them?..

Look at it from the side of the other person.

A nuke is too powerful. Its one of the reasons why the world hates us in the first place. We are too powerful with thesse nukes and so we dictate what goes on in the world. You can't nuke the world cuz we want to police them around. How bout the Russians policing us around for our health caree system and they can't do it with the military, but they can certainly do it with nukes. You want a big city like NY LA or some other palce getting nuked? Yes innocent men are dying, our marines are dying. But then you question the motive of the war. FIRST the reason was WAEPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION as soon as they found out that it wasn't there... OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. y not stay here and mind our own business? right? but honestly don't think like that. Your a fighter. Im proud of you, gluck to you! but also dude keep in mind don't keep any doubts bout ur fighting it can b unhealthy or deadly. FIGHT with one reason, your doing this to save ur country. don't let these things/doubts or questions get in ur head. Nothing comes easy. using a nuke is easy its not safe cuz the nuke we have today is 10,000 times the bomb we used in hiroshima. so radiation will kill people in surrounding areas that we don't want to kill. ITs not that we want to kill everyone, there a few individuals. They want that for us too.
But becareful and take care. We can't use nukes.

Using a Nuke not only kills people in an entirely inhumane way (radiation poisoning, genetic damage/cancer) but also damages the land for decades.

On top of that, firing a nuclear missile would just provoke a counter attack from the targetted country. How would you feel if your attack resulted in a nuke landing in the US? Billions of people would die and not just people of your own country.

No wonder you're in the army...

Don't get me wrong...I love my country but the U.S.has a history of trying to be the "world police".Why can't we stay out of other peoples business?Thats why the rest of the world hates us!!! I think we should NUKE the Arab countries for 9-11.Mexico should be next. Then maybe they would stop INVADING our country!!!!
We can all thank the jack-*** in the White house. He's the one that lets this happen!
