Is there anything they could do or will they just tell me to keep her rested? They are quite badly cut although there is no bleeding! She seemed ok till we got her home!

Thank you to everyone who has answered me. Willow is my baby and my husband thinks I am being overprotective of her if I take her to the vets, only for them to say there is nothing they can do! I would do anything for her and hate to see her in pain. She is limping quite badly now and I will definately take her to the vets on monday!

Dogs paw pads are pretty tough little items, you know. You need to bring her to the vet on Monday, just because that is the kind of person you are, and that is how much you love your wonderful little friend. There is nothing which will help both you and your pet more than the vet telling you exactly what's what. If you injured your paws, she would take you to the doctor that very hour. You will not be right in the head until you have simply brought her in for a quick check up.That is why we have vets. My vet would tell me how to care for my cat right over the phone because I have called so many times over the smallest things. The bottom line here is how much you love your animal friend. Don't you see how much better you and she will both feel if you just know for certain what you are dealing with? Yes it is worth it and yes it will cost you a little money, but compared to the peace of mind and possible treatment it will bring to your friend, it is worth every single (in this country, penny) _______ it will cost you. As my friend Erika once told me "It's only money," and compared to your animal's well being it is priceless, period. If there is no bleeding, you may be okay until Monday morning. Ask another person you know to also look at her paws. Strength in numbers, you see. Well, I hope this has helped to calm your nerves a little and quiet your heart. I just honestly feel you will feel so much better inside if you simply have her checked out. It will take two minutes. In fact, I think this is exactly what you intend to do, anyway. I certainly hope it is. Sent to you with love and a big hug for you and for your wonderful, faithful and loving canine friend (and if you write a follow-up, for Heaven's sake tell us all her name!), I am Chris in South Portland, Maine, US.A. (I am 63 years old, and we have two cats. Our babies take wonderful care of us, and believe me, we care for them every single day of the year. They ask so little and they give so much, and they are always there for you.)

Basic Training of the Puppy - Read here https://tr.im/NzvHv

The new puppy is certainly one of the most adorable and cuddly creatures that has ever been created. It is the most natural thing in the world to shower it with love and affection. However, at the same time it is important to realize that if you want to have a well trained adult dog, you need to begin the training process right away. The dog, like its related ancestor, the wolf, is a pack animal. One of the features of a pack is that it has a single dominant leader. Your new puppy is going to want that leader to be you, but if you do not assume that role from the very beginning, the puppy’s instincts will push him to become the leader.

The most important thing to remember about training the puppy during its first six months of life is that it must see you as the leader of the family pack. The essential thing is gaining the trust and the respect of the puppy from the beginning. You will not do this by allowing the puppy to do whatever it wants to do whenever it wants to do it. On the other hand, a certain amount of patience is required. Most people err in their early training by going to extremes one way or the other. Although you need to begin the basic training process at once, you can not expect your dog to do too much at first. Basic obedience training is fine and should include simple commands like sit, stay, and come. Remember that trying to teach the dog advanced obedience techniques when it is a puppy is much like trying to teach a five year old child algebra.

It is also important to restrain from cruel or abusive treatment of the puppy. You can not beat obedience into your dog, and it certainly is not going to engender feeling of respect and trust. House breaking is an area where this usually becomes a problem because of the anger that is triggered when the puppy fails and creates a mess inside the home. Although this issue must be addressed without anger, it most be addressed. If you allow the puppy to eliminate inside the house, it will continue to do so as an adult dog. The same thing is true of other destructive or dangerous behavior such as chewing and biting. Do not expect the puppy to grow out of it. You are going to need to train the puppy out of it, but you should do so firmly but with a sense of play and fun using positive reinforcement and lots of love and praise for good behavior.

Poor Willow,
I have a golden Retreiver myself and am great friends with my Breeder. Her golden had the same thing happen, chasing tennis balls on concrete. It is very abrasive on the pads of their feet and is like a very bad scrape / roadrash. It will be sore for a while. As long as there are no gashes, or actual cuts, just keep the pads clean, and treat with an antibiotic creme. There are several kinds you can pick up. You might want to trim the hair between the pads as well, to keep everything nice and clean and tidy.

Luckily, they heal quickly. Just keep her on the grass until they are completely healed, and don't let her run excessively on concrete anymore.

Best of luck!
Julie

All of these answers are very good. You could clean it up with some iodine, use some neosporin and use that vet wrap stuff. Clean it at morning and night and observe it to make sure its not getting infected. As someone else said, she will try to eat the vet wrap!! If this starts to happen, you could get some bitter apple and spray a little bit on it to deter her from eating it. Good luck

Hi try bathing her paws in salt water a couple of times a day, she will probably lick the wounds a lot, so keep an eye on them for any infection, in which case you should visit the vet.

well the most i can tell is that if u take her to the vet. The vet will put some cream on the paws and wrap them till they get better. so u can do that ur self. go to petsmart or any other pet supply store and get cream some wrap. and as long as she can walk she'll be fine.

My jack gal tore hers up trying to climb trees chasing squirrels and we rushed her to the vet just to hear that they will heal on their own and to just keep them clean(with soap and water) and to use an antibiotic cream(like neosporin) a couple of times a day. Her paws will be touchy for a while, but she will be ok.

My dog cut herself recently and i took her to the vet, it turned out that she had an infection in the cut and needed treatment so you should get her checked just to be on the safe side. I hope you have pet insurance, i didn't and it cost a fortune

Clean her paws really well, put an antibiotic cream on them and keep an eye on her. If there's any redness or swelling, she'll need to go to the vet.

they are going to do more then just tell u to keep her rested. they need to wash it, and they first need to assess her wounds to make sure there is no infection. also, if there are particles in there, they need to debreed the wound (meaning, to wash the wound with a powerful blast of water, as to break the gunk off).
even if they are badly cut, the bleeding could be internally, so u may not see it.

please take her to the vet. maybe she is in pain and us humans cannot tell sometimes when our precious poocheds are in pain. the vet will be able to tell and he can prescribe some pain medication, just like u or I would get if we were hurt.

trust me, it's worth taking them to the vet and spending some money then for them to be in pain or suffering.

or, do like me. purchase pet insurance. I have VPI pet insurance (vetenary pet insurance). I have peace of mind and it has saved me hundreds of dollars so far. I know my pet is taken care of just as well as my Kaiser insurance takes care of me when I"m sick.

pets get sick just like humans do so they deserve the best care...because dogs are our best friends.

Your jack russel depends on you. but first, give him a kiss on the nose from me and my Yorkie, Charlie.

love,
corina
